If B offers you a job, I would tell B you'd really like to take it, but that another company made an offer first (implying between B's interview and B's offer, but not stating that) and that you took it. And that you'd be interested in moving to B in the future.

Then, work for A for the year, but keep looking for other jobs - maybe starting six to nine months in.

I would have been all over B. Some short term unfamiliarity is a small price to pay for such a sweet gig.

Take it if you get it and want it.

I would be a colossal douche but I gotta do what I gotta do, yea?

Job A's one-time inconvenience as a company that they'll forget in a month is a small price to pay for my entire career path....

Hmm.

agreed, as long as you don't mind burning the bridge with Job A and the related people

Sigh. It'll be an interesting 2 weeks ahead. I'll keep this thread posted.

That excellent hippy job.. I learned today that the company is only 100 people and PMO & IT is only 30.

They have 2 PMs and they want to bring a Senior PM (me).

THIS would be an AMAZING opportunity if I get it.

Similar situation, except for internships. Accepted offer from company A, got another interview with company B. I figured why not interview anyways, if it goes well might be useful for finding a permanent position with company B come next year.

It went really well, and now have slight trepidation about accepting offer A so quickly.

Fortunate thing is, it's only for one summer!

Good luck with the decision Zeze. (assuming you get the offer) It's tough to choose to burn bridges, but for a permanent position I would imagine sometimes you have to put yourself first.

make sure you have a slide deck for company A detailing the who what when where and why you are leaving :whiste:

and a project charter and timeline.

All this hype. This sucks.

I'll probably just end up with job A... which is good to begin with anyway.

I hate these jitters.

Woooo, a PM joke- finally. You know, you IT/engineers have tons too.

Who let sdifox out of his smelly basement cube- did your shiny server racks finally bore you?

Let us management and people-person handle this. Us adults will slap you with another to-do task to keep you busy.

Back to the cave now, run along.

Go with B. You gotta think about yourself and your family first. You don't owe anything to company A

Quit being a bitch and have some self confidence! If you're qualified and the interview went well with B, I see no legitimate reason why you should not receive an offer.

When are you supposed to hear back?

if B offers you the job, take it.

Don't feel bad, don't worry about your "permanent record" so many people make up around here. Its your life man, you only get one chance at this shit.

Hmm.

You have to do what is best for you and your family. Believe me, if company A hired you and then decided in 2 weeks that they were paying you too much money and had to let you go, they wouldn't hesitate.

In my case, I had 3 job offers in early August. I chose the contract position for several reasons:

1. I didn't seem to have any problems finding a job so I figured if I REALLY hated it, I could move on quickly.
2. If I liked it, I'd make a ton of money and build my skillset up. I've already learned a ton.
3. The contract could last 1 year or may last 20 years depending on many factors. My boss mentioned converting us to full timers but honestly I'm not sure I want to do that. The only benefit I'm not getting right now that I care about is 401K contributions, and 1) at one year I will even get those as a contractor and 2) I make so much more now that I can stuff my IRA and make other investments until then.
4. This particular position is 100% work from home and has little or no travel. Working from home alone is worth several thousand dollars per year in automobile wear/tear, gas savings, lunch savings, etc.

For the hell of it, I went on an interview a couple of weeks ago and got that job offer too, though I declined. So I'm 4/4 for job offers with the last 4 companies I've interviewed with, so that is a major confidence builder and helps.

In my role, I work directly with several PMs. My god, they are a useless and clueless lot (not saying you are). For such a huge global organization, you'd think they'd have better PMs. My coworker is always coaching the PM on one project on what he needs to do next, but my philosophy is to let them sink or swim on their own.

ahahahah don't mess up your lines of communication

Zeze, please compute the possible number of communication channels in your organization and get back with us asap. PMI will fail you if you can't! :D

I agree with Indy (I do that a lot, it seems...), take B if they offer and you like their offer. You don't owe A a damn thing, and you're talking about one awkward conversation vs. potentially years of working a job where every day you'd be kicking yourself and asking yourself "What if I took B?". Every bad day at A will be much, much worse.

DING DING DING!!!

See bold + underlined part of quote. EVERYONE seems to forget this shit. And you keep on with this BS that the workplace is almost like a family. They will toss you out like garbage the instant they no longer want you. They wont say goodbye. They wont wave. They wont weep with sorrow. But they will shove a few dollars in your mouth to keep your mouth shut after signing a piece of paper saying you wont.
