$13 for the cut, so then I'd give 'em $15.

Is this a real thread or just another Friday ATOT doesn't like tipping troll :)?

being here since 2005 you had to have seen at least one barber/pizza/bag/etc tip thread.

I tip usually $5 min for a hair cut.

Greatclips? $0.

Anywhere else? a buck or two if they are nice and don't half ass it so you don't have to fix it when you get home (hence greatclips = $0)

I may be wrong, but I don't believe that hair cutting is a gratuity-based service. It makes about as much sense as tipping your doctor or dentist, but the guy that used to cut my hair (before I just started buzzing it myself) was great... always remembered my name, what we talked about, etc. Some barbers/hair stylists actually keep notes on this to give you a more pleasant experience when you visit and I applaud the effort.

depends on shop.

Some are salary/hourly.

Some are on rent and have to pay the shop for every hour they are working.

The mass-production cutters are paying a wage and usually pool all tips.

$13 haircut I leave $2-3 extra depending on how good of a job was done. Last time it was $2 because the barber cut my neck.

I tipped almost $8 last time. I usually don't tip more than a couple bucks but she was cute and talked suggestively about how single she was.

I'm not bald but because of thinning hair I just give myself a buzz cut. Costs nothing. So for a tip I just tell myself 'Hey, stay away from ugly women'.

Complaint, that's normally what I give MrsSkoorb in regard to her hair cutting when she does it. $15 clippers good for a couple years = the ticket. #1 FTW

I notice you didn't say you gave her more money.

Today, I decided to cut my hair off, pretty thick long hair, to a buzz cut. It took 10 minutes tops, and I tipped $5

So instead of going for it, you just gave her a big tip instead?

Well played, loser.

assuming I'm just going in for a cut, I round up to $20.

back when I got my hair dyed, I tipped more since I tipped both the colorist and the stylist.

Story of my life. :( Oh well, it's almost time for another haircut. Maybe I've grown some balls in addition to the wooly mess on my head since then.

I haven't been to a haircutter for a few years...but the last time, a cut was $10-$12 and I'd tip $1 or $2.

I'm about to find out how much prices have gone up, and I have no doubt that I'll get charged by the foot or something...and how much I'll tip will depend on how much she rubs her tits in my face. :D

There was a place in Killeen, TX relatively close to Ft. Hood I used to get my hair cut at occasionally.

Normal hair cut was $5, so we tipped generously. I miss those days of $5 haircuts :(

I hate tipping for a haircut but I do it anyways, because I know it's expected. The cut costs $14, and I usually tip $2-3. Do most haircutters make vastly below minimum wage, like waiters, and so tips are their only chance of making minumum wage and beyond? Or to haircutters already generally make more than minumum wage, even without tips? I've assumed the latter, which is why I hate tipping on haircuts.
