Hello fellow AT denizens,
Yup, I got a shipment of Yates today: some D12SM-12, and one D12BL-12. Just some interesting notes:
1- the SMs don't have a label on the fan blade (the moving part)as my last shipment of SLs did (I have named those labels, "unbalance weights"). I've never had any SMs before, so IDK if they had the labels on the blades before or not. IAC, I've been talking up these unbalance weights for a while now (I've found them on Silverstone fans, fans in Antec PSUs and some Cooler Master OEM fans (ones bundled with CM products like cases, drive cages, etc.) - some have created very noticeable imbalances), so I'm wondering if I had anything to do with this or if it was more noticeable to them on the higher speed fans and they never had them? Just a reminder to remove them if you find them - hold the blade firmly so you don't damage the bearings in the process. They usually peel off easily and cleanly.
2- the BL is the ball bearing version of the SL. One can definitely feel the balls
- I hope that doesn't translate into much more noise than the SLs. This one comes packed in a single unit box - perhaps a reason for some of the extra cost... This one didn't have an unbalance weight on the blade either.
I'll be reporting on noise, consistency (I've noticed that if you buy a batch of 4 or 5 SLs there is usually one or more that are noisier than the others), and air flow soon. - I'm back! The SMs were all about the same and just a bit noisier than the SLs to my ear. The BL had a bit different sound but not bad - all of them felt smooth in the hand. All-in-all a good purchase.
Enjoy!
