Looking for a small one for personal use.. mostly going to make 1 cup of rice at a time but with the ability to make more.

Looking for a sealed top kind, not the ones with the flimsy glass lids that rattle around.

Dont want to spend $200 on a rice cooker with AI either...

A basic Zojirushi or National is good. They run about $100. If you can get one that's made in Japan, it will probably last for 10+ years. The cheaper ones made in other countries are less consistent.

A rice cooker is a simple thing. Any one will do just fine. The $20 one I got at Walmart has been doing fine for years now. All they have to do is heat up and sense when the water is gone.

How do I know where it's made?

Or do you mean any Zojirushi/National is good and to watch out for other brands not made in Jp.

If you have a Bed, Bath, and Beyond, you can get a pretty good one for about $20 bucks (Or less depending on sales and such).

I've personally kept rice in there overnight without a problem. I usually eat all the rice at once anyways. I think if you want something for ultra long range rice warming, look for a Zo' with fuzzy logic.

It should say on the box, but other than that I'm not certain. If you call Zojirushi and ask them about a particular model they should be able to tell you. I believe the Zoji 'fuzzy logic' models are MIJ, while their 'neuro fuzzy' models and most of their basic models are made in Thailand or Korea or something. The Korean ones aren't too bad either (I have one), but I'd put more stock in the Japanese manufacturing.

i love zojirushi. i just got a tiger one that kicks ass also.

Those cheap 20.00 ones from wal-mart/target SUCK. they heat ONLY from the bottom, which is why you always get burned rice on the bottom layer! the tiger or zojirushi ones cook all around so that you get perfectly cooked (as long as you put in the right amount of water) rice each time.

i cook a brown and white rice mix in mine practically everyday. i LOVE mine. if you can't get a good deal online trying going into an asian community to find a rice cooker of your liking.
