I'd say 75 is about the average fast lane speed, with a few people that drive faster (me).

Anyways, why do people alway claim (lie) that they weren't going that fast. You sped, you got caught. Sucks yes, but you took the risk (as do I). Pay up. Fine you were going 80mph then... still speeding. Whats the difference?

Well, it is my belief that speeding tickets are simply a profit generator for the government, and as such i don't feel like just freely bending over and letting take what they want. I would rather put up a fight with the same result then just take it.

Maybe, but it is all over the news the last few days that they are cracking down on speeders in So Cal. I drive up to Los Angeles from San Diego a couple times a month and I find myself doing 75 and being passed quite a bit. In the Maxima I'm usually doing the passing at 85-90mph. I've been lucky though. No tickets for me in the past few years. I heed the warnings though and I'm always on the lookout for cops. I hope my wife does the same.

I'd like to think they are cracking down on all the ricers. 😀

So would i, maybe issue a few 'fix-it" tickets for those rediculous exhausts

No d!ckhead, I'm talking about county or state district court. Certainly not federal courts. Moron.

Having a giant tach strapped to your steering column should be illegal. Like you REALLY need to know if your non-VTEC 4 banger is hitting 5000 rpms or 5500 rpms. Especially on a tach that redlines at 11000 rpms.

I own a car faster than you have ever even seen. Pardon me if I have an accurate tach. Now STFU>

In SoCal, on my way to work. I was doing the speed of traffic and changed lanes to go from I-805 south to I-15 south. CHP came right up behind me and pulled me over. Sucks, oh well.

I just don't think i was doing 86, my car doesn't like above 80 and i usually, just instinctively drive less than that. I wasn't running late, so there was no reason to speed.

I think i am going to contest and select trial by written declaration. Worse comes to worse i go to traffic school. I am pretty sure he just used his speedometer to guage my speed, any ideas on valid points to contest? I was thinking of asking to see when was the last time the speedometer in the car he was driving was calibrated. Do you think that reasonable doubt really includes speeding tickets?

Oh well, lemme know what you think.

Oh and for those of you who think i was reckless and should rot in hell, try driving in SoCal for a year or two, then flame me.

Don't go contesting the officer's calibration or speedometer unless you really know what you're doing. If this is your first ticket in 3 years it's best to come up with an explanation be all sorry in front of the DA or judge. Ask them to make it a non-moving violation. They'll want their money no matter what. BTW your ticket will state exactly what he used to measure your speed.

No such thing as a "county or state district court" in California...d!ckhead.

Every "district court" in California is a Federal court...Moron.

Now there are different "districts" in California, but the courts there aren't called state District Courts...those are called First Appellate District courts, Second Appellate District Court, etc...and they only handle appeals cases from CA Superior Court, not traffic tickets lol

So either way, your info is erroneous....but that's nothing new.

He's CANADIAN, LYNCH HIM!

Sorry, but misery loves company. So what happens if you don't pay? You can't come back or do the send the fine to Canadian collection agencies?

They'll have a bench warrant out for him the next time he visits, and then things can get tough if they pull him over for something they'll make him pay on the spot and if he doesn't he will spend a night in jail until court the next day (or worse for a couple of days until the day they see traffic cases). In this case it actually pays to just pay the fine since I doubt it goes on any record that matters to Canadian insurance companies (unless of course he never plans on returning to NY).

EDIT: <quote> They probably would come after, and NY and Ontario's insurance/police companies are linked, so the ticket went again my record. Apparently a lot of border states and a path down to Florida insurance companies are linked as well. Cali too IIRC. <quote.

Okay, this sucks.

My 95 in a 65 ticket was 60 bucks and 2 points while my 89 in a 55 ticket was 220 bucks and 4 points. I got the 220 dollar ticket before my 60 dollar one which means the 89 in a 55 was on my record when I went to court for hte 95 in a 65. The difference between Boulder court and Denver court is in Boulder they have 5 college girl interns they send you to and you basically get to talk to them and convince them to give you the lowest sentence whereas Denver's system is all automated and they tell you to screw yourself...

hot college interns? Maybe i need to got to boulder and put the pedal to the metal. 😉

Yeah, 3 out of 5 were pretty attractive and the spanish translator chick was pretty hot. The conversation with the girl went like this: so you were going 95 in a 65. I said something like yeah, there was no one on the road at 3AM so who am I going to kill especially since I have to drive 40 minutes to ge thome. She then said something like yeah, I hear ya I have to drive 40 minutes to school. Then she's like how does 4 points and 60 bucks sound? I was like well, as you can see I only have 6 points left so can you do anything more than that? So she's like how does 2 points and a turn signal violation sound? She then says alright I'll write it down and see if it goes through. The judge has final say though and it might get rejected. So I thanked her and the judge barely looked at it and I got a 2 point ticket for 95 in a 65.

I think what helped was I said something when I first got there like so if you get a ticket do you get to decide your own punishment. She got a good laugh out of that one..

Awesome! I need to get down to Boulder sometime. In most parts of the country that would have been reckless driving and you could have been looking at a little jail time. I hope you've slowed down a bit though.

I sorry, but you are a moron. There are only SIX fvcking district courts Moron.

The guy said he wanted to fight it. You honestly believe traffic or superior courts is going to even care? Or listen? Plus, you can get a jury in superior court. He was hit by CHP. Obviously going to go to superior court. He won't win, so he will go to district court. Either way jury trial unless he opts for bench trial. Maybe you meant in municipal or traffic court he'd get a bench trial. Sorry for assuming that he wanted to "fight" it, in which he would go appellate, because it is quite obvious that traffic court for a right would be an uphill battle. Play semantics all you want, but state level courts would be superior then district. My statement stands, he'd get a jury trial in DISTRICT court. I never ONCE said district would have original jurisdiction, d!ckhead.

I said "in a district court he might" then you said the only district court you'd heard of was federal. Then I said county or state level. Then you backtracked and said it was called the ...apellate district court. My first statement was 100% correct. Keep spinning asshole. BTW, USC sucks.

Read that page carefully...those are not STATE district courts as you previously called them moron, those are Appellate District courts..like I mentioned in my previous post.

And they do not handle traffic tickets, like you previously said moron.

I never really thought much of tickets before. I speed all the time, sometimes excessively (last year I had an 88 in a 60, an 88 in a 60, and an 82 in a 70.) It's just a couple hundred dollars. And I only got 3 tickets when I sped 365 days. Doesn't really seem too bad. But now we have a point system in Texas, so I don't know what I'll do when I get my next ticket.

haha LOL you're so uninformed...CA State superior court doesn't handle traffic tickets, your screwed understanding of "district court" won't handle it either...they only listen to appeals.

How could the original poster "get a jury trial" in an Appellate Districy Court" if that court would not even listen to his complaint LOL...it woudn't even get to jury selection stage, the judge would throw it out first haha lol ....actually the court clerk wouldn't even accept the filing. haha

Isist that you were only going 79. It will knock your ticket down by two notches and the officer will have to show that he used radar or laser. If he did not use either, you cannot get a ticket.

After taking 3 of my 6 tickets to court and getting all the points from the tickets taken off, winning two outright, and getting a reduced fine on the other, I highly recommend contesting tickets.

I didnt read it all but...
File for a continuance. When the date comes, file another. Then show up for the third date. You think a cop would go through all that just for a ticket? He should be a no show, which means you = teh winnar!

I never once said anything about "original" jurisdiction dumbfvck. Read my post carefully. I said in district court that he would get a jury trial. Not only that, but the clerk would certainly accept any appeal, and any appeal would be processed. This isn't a federal court or a supreme state bud, they hardly have latitude to accept any appeal. They will review it and decide if they want to hear arguments(most likely they would.

Umm... They are STATE appellate courts. I'm a bit familiar with the process of courts. I never called them state district courts. I said in a state or county district court. Play semantics all you want fool, but my post was very clear. You know what? You're right I should have said superior. In a district appellate court they'd only hear an appeal. No jury trial. Technically you are correct. I don't really bother with California courts because I'm in Alabama. Here we have district and circuit courts. Either way, I meant the level above a municpal court. Deal with it and play semantics, jackass. I can't be bothered to know the court structure of 50 states. BTW, USC still sucks. Too bad you couldn't beat "CAL."

hey dumbfvck..there are no juries in the Appelatte District Court....that court only hears appeals! It is not a trial court...thus no jury. Just a panel of judges!

haha lol ok...the District Appelatte court will hear an appeal on a traffic ticket case and use a jury to decide the appeal...hahah dream on.

"You deserved that ticket for going 86 in a 65 you asshat."

How's that?

/I have no real opinion on the matter.

lol who's "backtracking" now?

Can't be "bothered" to learn about CA state court system? Don't open you're mouth and post ignrant statements about the CA state court system then.

I'm not backtracking one bit. I meant district court in the manner courts are setup here. That would be comparable to your superior court. So sorry I didn't know the extract structure of your courts, but the basic idea was there. At least I can spell ignorant. My argument was that he can get a jury trial if he wants to pursue it. He can. That's simple. Are you saying he can't? I never said ANYTHING about the original jurisdiction(look that up too.) Playing semantics... look that up if you must. BTW, USC still sucks.
