From reading all of the threads by the whiners who wanted to know the best way to get out of paying their speeding fine, I learned (from one of the resident AT cops, I think) that you should always put your hands on the steering wheel and wait for the officer to ask you to retrieve your license/insurance. So that's what I did. When I saw the lights come on, I pulled over, turned off the car, placed my hands on the wheel, and waited for him to approach. (Usually I start digging thru my wallet the second I stop my car.) After he asks for my license, he says, "Michael, are you a cop?" I say, "No, why?" He says because of the way I'm acting, putting my hands on the wheel. After the obligatory 10 minutes of writing stuff down inside the cruiser, he comes back and says that because I had a good attitude he didn't write me up for the 18 over he clocked me at (48 in a 30), just 5 over...which, FYI, is still $80! Yeesh, I wonder what kind of fine 18 over would've netted me.

Oh, and for all the whiners, I already paid the fine.

Cool. That is a good practice for people to learn. If it is dark, also turn on your dome light.

Also, if you're on the highway and a cop pulls up behind you while in the left lane while you're speeding - DO NOT TRY AND SLOW DOWN! Just put up your hand to acknowledge that you see him/her, turn on your right turn blinker so he knows where you're going, finish your pass and pull over.

I read that while I was hanging out in Barnes and Noble and picked up: A Speeder's Guide to Avoiding Tickets

Damn, I should've done that (it was 4:00am)...maybe he would've let me slide with a warning. ;)

I won't take full credit for that, but I have posted that information in several threads. Being a cop is a stressful job and having someone indicate that they understand that and present less of a threat sets out minds at ease, even during the most routine, mundane tasks during our day to day.

that doesn't always gaurantee a lesser fine, but of course it doesn't hurt to make it easier for the cops.

I do the same things and one time the cop lowered my speeding from 46/30 to 40/30, definitely a less severe fine.

speeding tickets still suck ass tho haha.
