Do brown recluse spiders spin webs?

EDIT: I was just reading a website and it says they dont spin webs to catch their prey.

If I found that thing on my wall I'd burn the house down. Where the hell do you live?

Heh, I didn't take those pictures. I saw them on this forum years ago and saved them to my hard drive. Forgot who posted them in the first place. Hope he had a shotgun.

A flame thrower or rocket launcher would be more appropriate in that situation.

Seriously, this is rather important to me because I have small children. Does anyone have any idea? It seems too dark colored to a recluse. Ugh, I wish I could get a better pic for you guys, but not only am I afraid to let it out of the jar, my camera is teh suck for macro pics:(

The only thing that looks to be distinguishing about it is the white stripe on its back that you can see in the pic.

So now the question is, did this one spin a web? If it did, you're good to go; prolly just a large house or orb. If it didn't, poke a couple holes in the lid and toss that thing in the river.

It has started to make a web inside the jar.

I think you may wanna do more research on the web angle. Wiki states that they make webs, but do not catch insects there, just live there. Maybe your spider is making a home for the night?

take it to a pest control company and see if someone there can identify whether or not it can kill you all in your sleep?

Everything I've read about the recluse says there are usually hundreds of them if there is even one.

So it is either not a brown recluse, or you need to start a fire. And leave the house.

Or, I think you can get a bunch of granddaddy long legs and they will eat the BR's.
