for people interested, i guess about 2-3 here. i took 655 pictures and 20 or so videos for this trip (13 days).

here are some highlights.

Salmon Sashimi - Presented on a bed of shaved ice

Stinky Tofu - My brother & his wife trying it.

Two set meals from the mall, cost about $6 total
(I had the minced meat noodle, seaweed soup, chinese cold cuts combo plate, and a plate of bean sprouts)

Strange magazine

A plate of octopus (disgusting) and a plate of stir fried fresh bamboo (yummy)

Naruto toys for $1.50 each
(I had to get a complete set)

Who would want to go to this dentist?

I want to post a video of what is consider the freshest sashimi that I've ever had. in fact, when it was served, my brother's wife's face turned white. The fish meat was removed so fast that the fish (present on the plate) is still alive and breathing. I thought I was in Japan. I didn't feel like eating it too, ok I tried a piece. they took away the fish (with the other side still intact) and made a big bowl of soup. we didn't tell my brother's wife it was the same fish in that soup. I'm glad we didn't get the lobster which was served the same way.

(not taiwan) pic of my expensive glasses someone wanted to see.

updated with more pictures

Cool. I've tried the stinky tofu in Singapore. Didnt care too much for it. Ended up getting Satay instead for dinner.

Your sister in law is hot and the food looks delicious! All of it. Except maybe the octopus but that's only because I don't like how it's prepared.

what? my plain looking relatives?

during the day time, in the farmer's market only unattractive older women are around.

while in/near Taipei 101 at night, I might have some shots. I'm looking for another host to put up more pictures.

Oh I wanted to take a picture of this chick in a mini skirt in a strange booth selling some strange nuts (for chewing), but she hid herself after I got the camera out. (the sign outside says 7th grade).

Taiwan has awesome food, but its the Taiwanese food you should be going for.

Rolls are Americanized... Want good rolls?

Sushi House in Alameda, CA. Probably the best in the Bay Area, having lived here for 19 years and having been a sushi freak for so many years...

But yea.. some of that sashimi in Asia is so fresh.... hard to find that here in the US. Sushi House has some of the freshest sashimi I've ever seen, after sitting at the counter once to watch them make sushi

were they beetle nuts or whatever those things are called?

I haven't been back for a while, I used love the dept store Sogo as a kid though.

You tell em DLeRium. I have some more tips for the OP. I know you went to TAIWAN and all and you were showing pictures of your trip to TAIWAN. And that you are from VIRGINIA, but if you want some good stir fry bamboo shoots, there is an excellent place in Reno, NV. And I know you might not like the octopus you had in TAIWAN, they make a great deep fried calimari (similar) dish at a place in Lansing, MI. Hit me up if you need more worthless food recommendations. Or just ask DLERium.

updated with more traditional pictures and stuff. the very soft tofu (dao-flower?) with peanuts and lotus seeds is delicious.

there is an excellent place in Reno, NV

I'm going to Tahoe in March, where is this place in reno? I love squids (there are plenty in Taiwan) and octopus sushi, (just not whole boiled baby octopus)

Please just stop. You're killing me. I'm going to Japan on the 24th, and Taiwan on the 29th. I'm already excited enough. I haven't even had Taiwanese food this whole semester except for a few bowls of minced pork + rice...

Okonmyaki (Japanese pizza) looks like Oa-Jian which is Oyster pancake? Taiwanese definitely.

Pastries are SOO GOOD. I love Chinese bakeries in general. Mmmm kinda like those HK bakeries.. SOOOO FREAKING GOOD and buttery.. YUmmyy

Hope you had a wonderful time in Taiwan though!!!

oh it seems like for breakfast, people there COULD eat hot dogs (my cousin got that for breakfast, i gave her the look). I prefer the traditional soy bean milk and assorted asian pastries.

my brother and his wife didn't care much for the oyster pancakes like I do.. they said it tastes like oyster omelete with glue.

i had a good time, too bad it was so short.... my relatives loaded me up with pastries and candies.. sadly some of the pastries have to be eaten right away (expiration date as short as 4 days!). I got a box of 10 suncakes for myself, I'll eat it with black tea.

I had to try okonomyaki because of watching anime. it was pretty good, but suprisingly made of more cabbage than dough.
