YASST: UCLA on lockdown after two people shot

So another school, another gun free zone, another shooter. It was only a matter of time. It still doesn't qualify as a mass shooting by the governments definitions yet.

It's funny how "weapons free" means it is ok to open fire. But "gun free" means something completely different. Could it be that all of this is just a simple misunderstanding of the phrase "gun free zone"?

What odes it matter? Jesus every time there's a mass shooting you people drop the gun free bullshit. It has NEVER proven to be a motivation in any mass shooting that has ever occurred. If you can show me one where it's stated I will glady withdraw my objection.

Yeah, a murder suicide with only two dead should be called a mass shooting.

/sarcasm

James Holmes:

In his own handwriting, he plans a “mass murder spree” and considers theaters and times to attack for “maximum casualties.”

His notebook is filled with such deliberations. Should he attack an airport? No, he decides, too much security. On a sketch of the Century 16 theaters he would attack, he noted that a police station was just three minutes’ drive away.

Well, seeing as if the OP's highest priority for posting is to make an implied statement about UCLA's students being shot because it is a gun-free zone, I think the OP should include supporting evidence via recordings or written documentation by the shooter that he specifically chose UCLA for that reason.

Otherwise......

Update: Murder-Suicide; shooter has been determined to be dead.

Doesn't California have one of the strictest gun laws in this country? How did the shooter get a gun to a school?

Because if you have nothing that shows up on a background check (i.e. you're not a convicted of any major crimes or violations), you can still buy a gun. The campus is also in an urban area without a perimeter--it blends right in with Westwood Village. If you have an ID to open the doors into a building (as a student ID would allow), there's no metal detectors or x-ray scanners at the entrance, so you can walk right in with a bomb or a gun or anything you want.

I imagine most college campuses are the same...

Title is all wrong. Neither were current students one was a professor the other was a former Ph.D student who received his Ph.D in 2013. Sounds like he thought the professor stole his work.

Thank you - i edited the title to reflect the change.

Life is cheap, even one's own it seems.
Yep.

Closer to home, a family friend's granddaughter spent four years pretending to go to college while her family supported her. She didn't go to (or register for) class, didn't work a job. Just partied and got high. Had her whole extended family coming up to see her graduate. The night before graduation, she killed herself. WTF is wrong with people? Here we have people with huge advantages who kill themselves (and in this case, murder) rather than handling a defeat like a fucking human being.

While I think gun free/drug free zones are retarded, in this particular case it's pretty irrelevant. Murder suicide is virtually impossible to stop even if you are the target and have a gun on you. This is especially true because in almost all murder suicides the assailant is intimately familiar with their target.
