yet another call to armchair economists: let's say the entire world switches over to a common currency. what would be the effects of this?

theoretically, there could be one worldwide currency....the devil is how you transition and implement

A common currency?? That would be... interesting. Obviously though, as there is such a wide spectrum of countries from say the Congo and Iraq to UK, Canada, US, etc. that it would be very hard. The same currency would be worth much more in like China than say the US.
