So I went to CostCo for the first time today and picked up a large pack of ribs. I think I want to try to Barbeque these things but I want to make the sauce myself. I love to cook and to experiment but I need to know where to start. I do NOT want a vinegar based recipe. I've seen recipes that use tomato sauce base and others that use molasses. What are your favorite recipes? Anyone?

I can't tell you my rub or sauce recipe. You can check online as there are tons or recipes.

Biggest question is how do you intend on cooking them and do you have a smoker? If not you may want to braise them in the oven at 225-250 for a while (in foil packets with applejuice, gingner and some spices) and finish on the grill to char it up some. They aren't the same as BBQ ribs but they are very good. It will still take many hours even if you braise them.

Also - what kind of ribs, should say on the package.

I gave up on cooking ribs a while back, no matter what tips/tricks I followed to a tee(even some from here) my results were always epic-fails. :eek:

no smoke, no barbecue.

baby back ribs can be grilled. costco's mesquite rub is quite tasty. i like to marinade in that and some coca cola.

Try the braised baby backs Alton did. I was very skeptical at first as I always smoke them and spare ribs on low heat. I was really surprised at how well it does.

i agree on the pork rib thing. my dad likes beef ribs from time to time. nothing against beef but....i like pork ribs a lot better.

he has a great dry rub i need to learn how to make, and a great sauce, but its vinegar-based (us being from NC) so I'll spare the OP.
