It seems the most popular threads are ones where people get so passionate about arguing against the existence of a god. I can't understand why someone would spend so many calories on something they don't believe. I don't believe in UFOs, aliens, or ghosts. In fact, I think the belief in their existence is so ludicrous, I don't care to even argue about it. So why do atheists/agnostics?

because other people do, so i guess it bothers them. FOr me, I couldn't give two sh!ts if you believed in Zeus, but atheists like Dawkins do care.

because unlike you, they question, What if He does exist? to themselves. the;ve decided they are atheist or whatever, and need to prove what they are/what they "believe" mostly for themselves.

Don't forget politics either. There's a good deal of political wrangling involved, everything from the "why are those fools getting my tax money" factor to the congressional factor of what becomes legal/illegal.

I'm agnostic and really don't care for the most part. But if some religious nut tries to shove their bs down my throat THEN I retaliate.

Exactly. Stuff like putting Creation Science into the schools, that I don't like. Why not teach creation stories from ancient Greek mythology in science classes too, as "alternative ideas," or perhaps Native American fokelore? Science is taught in science class. If anyone wants their own creation story told, have it done at your place of worship.

Because so many elements of our lives are heavily influenced by an idea that if looked at objectively sounds like the convoluted work of three hippies on a LSD trip? 😉

the anti-religionists want to change America to a secular society where religion is outlawed

they want to throw Christians in jail first, then they'll get the Jews and Muslims later

Because some people honestly believe that they, and their opinions, will be able to change your mind.
No one goes into a religion thread expecting to have a revelation.
People go in for two reasons.
To laugh at the stupid people, and to post their opinions in hopes that someone will agree or argue with them.

I'm not religious and I don't care... Not about what other people believe or don't believe in, or argue about. I don't even know whether I'd be considered agnostic or an atheist.

In fact, I can't believe I'm posting, this takes way too much effort and thought about what I believe in, and I don't care enough to delve deeper. I have plenty of other things to be thinking about / doing that are more interesting to me.

I've been hearing that statment for the better part of thirty years, and I've never once heard of anyone in the US adopting a religion under threat of force. It doesn't happen.

WTH? They are putting Creation Science in American Schools? What Grade is this introduced in? Is it an elective or a core class?

We had stories from Greek Mythology in English class, Hindu Mythology in Hindi class (most Hindi literature is about Hindu gods) and the ilk. But Creation Science? That's a little far-out, particularly for a multi-ethnic, secular society like the one I live in (India).

Hell, that's the US of A too.

What are you, nuts? There's way too many of the Christians to start with them. We're going for the Jehovah's Witnesses first, because we figure no one will mind their dinner going uninterrupted. 😛

round up all the damn Canadians too. Im tired of flannel.

Agnostics don't really argue about the existence of god, we leave that to the Atheists.

I only mind religious people when they try to push religious based legislation that aims to take away my rights in what is supposed to be a secular society. The second they think they can justifiably inflict their belief system on me through the rule of law is where I start to get pissed.

Now if someone personally gets in my face on the religion issue I'm not going to just stand there and take it. I don't try to verbally (or otherwise) beat people into submission to my beliefs and I expect the same courtesy.
