Ok first year in college, and first time with a roommate.

It all started when i watch tv at night to make me fall asleep, i do turn it off, but i like to watch the news/shows before i go to bed. I was being nice and turned it down a lot more than i usally would, but still enough for me to listen.

Well he started saying at night "hey can you turn that down a little bit?" so of course i turned it down a little bit more. This happens all the time, and has me resorted to putting the closed caption on so i can make out the sounds being said.

Anyways that kind of bothers me, because we are in college, we have to be able to live with some new things we are not use to. I took this thought, and turned the volume down more than i usally would, but i think there needs to be a medium on where i can have it - even with video games, he says the "rumbles are too loud" ..THE RUMBLES!!!

So everyone knows this, here is the catcher.

in the morning - he wakes up before i do, like a few hours because of class. But he is so loud! he opens up the blinds and lets the light in, gets his food out of plastic sacks, slams the doors, comes in after he opens it.. and so on. Very rude.

Also here is the most recent, he sleeps at odd hours, and all the time!

Like today, he had a study session to go to, so someone knocks on the door (his buddy) but he doesnt do anything, so the person knocks again - and he starts yelling "HANG ON, I WILL BE RIGHT THERE" bah so loud

But yea, he sleeps all the time, and when he says "i am going to sleep" that means i can not watch tv, turn on lights, play games, or rarley do anything or it wakes him up.

He has totally took over this room - and i am not a person that "tells how it is"

Anyone have any suggestions? or thoughts? or experience?

Thanks

oh and also, i have talked to him about it, he just doesnt do anything.

he also has a problem locking the door, he never does it!! and knowing how techs are - you have a lot of expensive stuff in your room :p

Grow a sac or people will walk all over you for the rest of your life. ATOT may be a good place to vent your frustrations, but no one here can fix your problems. You will have to do that yourself.

Eh its not so much of me being a man to confront him, i just have to live with him for the rest of the year, and would hate to cause more problems

and no one had walked over me yet :) i do stand up, but i do give it time to see if it is a fluke.

Make him your bitch and tatoo your name on his ass with a burning rollerball pen. Or print out your post and give it to him to read. Either of these things will probably make him much more sensitive to your needs. If either doesn't work, he's a prick and you have no chance.

if it bothers him that much, he can buy you wireless headphones. if he doesnt want to, a pillow case filled with D-sized batteries can solve the problem also.

edit: tv doesnt have a headphone jack? he can also buy you a receiver then to get the wireless headphones working.

Oh noes!!!111

Living in a dorm room sucks. Deal with it. (I'm in my second year of dorm life right now, so I'm not just saying this.)

I completely understand where you're coming from, but some people just....don't.

HEADPHONES asshole. jesus. there's no reason you have to play video games with the sound live in the room.

as for the mornings, just give him hell about it. but until you're considerate about him going to sleep, you don't have a leg to stand on about it. in fact, i'd purposely wake you up just to get back at you.

Man!

VeggieFrog used to have a problem like that when she was in Penn State. Sucky, filty, piggy and inconsiderate roomate. Then she was in a single room in a shared dorm in England.... but it was too noisy and someone kept stealing everyone's food.

It is easier for me to just pay her half of the rent on the house she shares with her boyfriend. No hassles, no bullsh!t and she is happy.

If you don't have the money for this, you will have to just keep your ground. When he complains about the teevee... tell him that you would be happy to be more considerate of him... when he learns to be more considerate of you! then tell him how he pisses you off and that if he doesnt want to compromise, he can move out!!

:)

Basically this is what I've resorted to as well. I never get to use my speakers anymore since my roommate is always watching stupid crap on TV. My headphones get a lot of use...

Edit: Not really complaining since it's my own fault I decided to live in the dorms again, but it sure would be nice to live alone.

you're not asking him to get adjusted to college, you're asking him to get adjusted to you, but you're not willing to do any adjusting yourself. you're an inconsiderate hypocrite.
