YART: Why do Protestants hate Catholics so much?

Protestants percieve Catholics as deifying Mary and the rest of the saints. They're often put off by the amount of ritual and icons. The history the Catholic church has of slipping theologically off the path adds to the misunderstandings, as well as the individual congregations that do have errors in their theology. There isn't a solid understanding about what really makes you a Christian, and each side views the other as being wrong, when they really do share views on the vital questions of salvation.

I don't think Protestants hate Catholics so much as they misunderstand and thus are a little afraid of them. There's an "us and them" attitude.

I find the whole division very sad, perpetuated by mistrust, stubbornness, and individual mistakes made by people and churches (they exist on both sides of the Catholic/Protestant line).

<--Raised Anglican, been EFree, S. Baptist, Covenant, and familiar with Catholic theology.

there are a few branches of christianity, but most christians fall under either Catholic or Protestant.

"most" Christians?

Wow, talk about ignorance... there are 300 million people out there who are Christian Orthodox, and I believe that's more than the total population of the United States.
Nope, believe the US pop is higher than that now.

Not to mention the fact that you cannot say "Christians hate Catholics", since Catholics are Christian... Do Americans hate Texans?
Yes 😀

In everyone of these threads I personal tell you that Anglicans are neither Catholic nor Protestant.
Apparently, you don't come in these forums to learn, just to say what you want. Your mind is already made up on the issue.

i posted earlier something about episcopalions/anglicans, but the post you quoted has nothing to do with that.

apparently you don't read so well.

Hate is a very strong word.. I would say dislike or may misunderstand as some have put it. I am roman chatholic and i dont hate any other other religion. I do however live in a very prtoestant area and it seems like there is a stereotype set for the chatholics. That was are all rich, all we care about is money, we have dirty priests and that its all a ritual. My church does ask for donations but it puts it to good use! and None of our priests have done anything to harm children.

its all christanity but just a slight diff take on it. no one really knows which way is the correct way to worship god assuming that one of them is correct.

Celibacy is NOT a normal condition for a human. I believe that requirement plus the position of trust that priests occupy is a recipe for potential disaster. As we have all seen.

How do you know?

Then by definition it's all equally arbitrary, isn't it?
