YART: Home Theater + Roommate's Party == BADBADBAD

Okay;
my roommate is having a party sunday night.. I'm a bit worried about all my home theater equipment.

Also my ass expensive kameleon remote, bleh.

Okay, the remote goes in my (locked) room, but what about all my home theater equipment, and tv?

Should I make sure it's hooked up perfectly, and all settings set to allow for dvd playing, or unplug everything?

My reasoning is either :
unplug it: some fvcktard tries to fix it, by screwing with everything
leave it perfect: some fvcktard tries to 'make the sound better' by screwing with everything

Set it and put tape over the controls with a sign saying, "Touch this and you fvcking DIE!"

😀

Maybe he'll be intimidated by the warning... that's how most idiots are.

Tell you what. Have a 12-pack of Bass Ale sitting in the fridge for me and I'll come over to guard your stuff. I'll even bring my neighbor who's about 240, well-versed in UFC-style fighting, and is rather cranky.

Kennesaw's only about 25 min from me so I won't even hit you up for gas. Deal? 😀

Size wise, I'm *not* (edit) worried about kicking some ass; it's more like the hassle involved when something of yours is broken by a friend.

Just out of curiousity, where abouts do you live?

In the middle of the map where the police have put pins noting all of the sightings off ass-less-chaps-wearing or thong-wearing perps!

Also known as "Conjur's Nirvana".

i wouldnt worry too much. i lived in a fraternity house for two years with 40 drunken morons, and my system made it through completely unscathed. guys usually respect electronic equipment, just not the glassware.

my HT setup.
Rotel RSX-965
Pioneer DVC -?? (cant remember. 5 disc DVD/CD changer)
Anthony Gallo Acoustics Nucleus Micros (replaced front channels with JBL S38's, best bookshelf speaker for under $1000)
JVC 27" with component input

whats your system? pics?

Idea: do you have a yard or patio to where you could steer the party outside? Put the keg as far away from the HT stuff as possible, in other words.

It's all Denon stuff
avr 3803 (iirc)
and all matching Denon speakers

Spent, maybe, $2000 or so total over a 2 year period

It's an apt complex. I'm half hoping the cops get called (all her friends are freaking idiots.)

I don't know how your setup is, but when I was concerned about damaging equipment, I just got a crapload of large garbage bags and tossed them over everything. People generally realize that you really don't want your stuff touched, and aren't curious enough about your equipment to peek. Unless they're like me, and want to know what you're running. 🙂

oh yeah, i also kept mine in a cabinet with locking glass doors. that also keeps DVD vultures from raiding your collection.

Putting a sign will just cause one of your friends to fvck with it just to bother you. I'd risk it... just make sure your content insurance is up to date.

this is actually a good idea....lots of parties in santa barbara did this. its like moths to a flame 🙂

edit:

talk to ur roommate about it.

if your equipment will not be used, what will he(she) use for the music?

maybe u should be @ the party

What about moving it all into your room and locking the door? Kind of a PITA but at least you could enjoy yourself without worrying about your stuff getting damaged.

If you don't mind going through the hassle, put it all in your car and park it at another end of the apartment complex. Or ask a very trusting friend to keep the stuff for some time, tell him that you'll even let him use it for a week in return so you don't havce to pick it up the next day, heh 🙂

How hard is it to unplug and remove your digital receiver and lock it up? That should be adequate, and just let your roomate use the tv without using the home theatre setup. Actually if those speakers aren't mounted, I would move the ones out in the open into my room also. I hate it when people put drinks on my subwoofer :disgust:
