It's been a while since I've updated my resume, but I'll be needing it soon so I figured now is a great time to make it "better." I just have a couple of general questions (so far...):

1. Do I need an Objective section? I've seen positive and negative answers pertaining to it

2. If I do or do not have an Objective section, do I need a Profile section? Basically bullet points outlining general skills that don't have to do with my employment history.

3. Should I list out references (if so how many) or should I just put "References available upon request" or just omit it altogether?

4. I attended college briefly, but don't have a degree and haven't needed one for my field. Should I just put the brief period I did attend, or omit the education section altogether?

1. Generally no. But what would your objective statement say so we can better assess?
2. How many years of experience do you have?
3. No, leave them off. They will ask for references as you go through the interviewing process
4. If no degree then leave it off.

I think an objective section is useful to let prospective employers know your expectations although they rarely read them.

Profile should go in your letter of interest.

References will be required but, I never include them with my resume because of my outlook on privacy.

Leave off education not resulting in a degree unless it directly applies to the job applied to.
