Yard work liability question

I usually do all my yard work but a few weeks ago some old dude came by asking for yard work and odd jobs. He is cheap as hell and seems honest and needs the money. I'm getting ready for all my spring stuff and the wife suggested I have him help.

I'm wondering if I'm paying this guy to do stuff and he gets hurt am I liable?

Yes ... big time.

Check your homeowners/renters insurance for specifics on how much you could potentially be left holding the bag for.

Making sure anyone who works on your residence (x100 if you own it) is FULLY insured AND that you have your own backup coverage as well is critical in case anything goes wrong.

Anyone can sue you for any reason.

If he gets hurt on your property, you just have to do labor and do it in a few hours or however long it takes you to did a 3x6x4 hole. If you're out of shape, make the wife help. Or could have him pre dig...just in case.

Only 4' deep? That will start to smell pretty quickly...you'll have all kinds of dogs (or other critters) sniffing and digging. ALWAYS go 6' deep...minimum.

(or so I saw in a movie once....) 😳

You could hire someone to dispose of the body. Though, if they then put their back out lifting it...I foresee an unfortunate chain of events...could get seriously out-of-hand. Maybe a messy yard isn't so bad?

Might be cheaper than hiring a licensed, bonded, and insured landscape company though...

I'll come over and pre-dig the hole for a small fee.
I have Mini Mee here rented for a week.

Tip: If you have a chainsaw, that hole can be 3x3x7.

Don't lime cover all of that? Movies said that too.

Maybe some car air fresheners too.

highland is lucky, though. He can just drag the body over to the funeral home in the middle of the night and put it in one of the caskets.

Shhhh.

I was so hoping they would get a crematorium but the panty twisted snots in my hood blew a gasket when they found out so the owner backed off.

Sounds like a great opportunity for you to build a "pizza oven" in your backyard and let them use it for a nominal fee...

Would the worker signing off on any and all liability of the owner, under any and all circumstances be the answer?
