So I am thinking about adopting my friend's kittie because his property management doesn't allow pets. I am currently on a lease for a 1 bedroom apartment, where there is plenty of space because half of the people on this complex has pets. Anyways, I am in college, so I am gone to classes 5-6 hours a day, and I probably go out 2-3 hours a day... So I will be out of my house around 8-9 hours a day. My question is, should I adopt this kittie? She is 3 months old and I have played with her for a couple of times, she seemed to like me. She didn't have any problems about me playing with her, she even came after me when I was leaving my friend's house. Either way, 4-5 years ago, when I was a senior in high school, we had a cat (7 year old cat) and I really liked having an animal around. It was fun, and I enjoyed it. So what should I look into? Do you think me being out of the house for 8-9 hours a day will bother the kittie? I know most cats don't give a damn, but since she is only 3 months old, do you, cat experts, see any problems for me adopting this kittie? :)

Thanks!!!

If you do adopt it do it with the understanding that you are taking on a responsibility that could last 20 years.

The kitty will be fine with you being gone 8-9 hours a day.. thats a typical work day. But yes.. keep in mind that this is about a 20 year commitment.

The cat will be fine when you're gone. Our cat just sleeps when we're not home and gets up to play with us when we get back.

Once the cat is no longer a kitten, being away from it will be no sweat. She won't care. Of course, don't expect things to be a cakewalk when she's a kitten. She'll want to play, and if you aren't there, she's going to get into everything she can and possibly tear up a bunch of stuff. Just be prepared to clean up a mess after you come home every day. But that's only temporary, plus the adorableness far outweighs the mess!

I'd like to get a kitty, but I'm afraid my roommate would let it out of the apartment.

Then there are the initial costs: declawing, neutering, shots, etc.

Dont worry about your couch, most cats doesn't like that kind of material... they prefer cloth couch.

So if you have something like that, get kitty paws (or a similar product, it's a two-sided plastic tape)

Please don't get people here started on that topic.
EDIT: Too late (see post below mine)

Why would you want to have a cat and then declawing it? Imagine someone chopping off the tip of your fingers.....
try clippers, they're more pet friendly.....

That reminds me of my cat when he was a kitten. Id come home and have a roll of paper towels all over the floor or toilet paper that he grabbed the end of and ran with it.
