YAPSUT - Yet Another PSU Thread ;) :p

Alright, i thought i had decided on a powersupply, but my plans changed, and im no longer getting a 9700 pro, but a 9800 pro :) So, i need a little advice.. I would like to get a 400+W psu to make me feel comfortable about the power my rig is getting, so i think its down to 3 psu's. Vantec Ion 400W, Enermax 431W, and Antec True 430W.

My rig is in my sig, but the barton is going to be overclocked, and im going to be using a 9800 instead of the ti4400. What do you guys think!? :)

LOL @ title :D I think you just coined a phrase there, Vegetto!

Antec has a 3-year warranty and widespread availability. I would lean that way. I think they've started to use black plugs on the retail-boxed ones too, which would look distinctive, but don't quote me on that. So far I've seen one in person that came that way. I'd consider an Enermax too, just make sure not to get one that powers its rear fan using an external 3-pin like the one I've got :p

i'd take a Antec True 430W

FYI, my friend runs an almost identical rig as yours on a 300W antec smart power.

i use a 380W smart power

The Antec is nice, black plugs, thermaly controld fans and lead for exteranly controling a couple, it handles my rig with four drives, a 9700pro AIW, two burners, and an overclocked P4. Good piece.

Ramses, I admit to being vain enough to want one with black plugs  Where'd you get yours, and how long ago?

~laughter~ I thought the black was pretty nifty myself as well. I got mine from either Comp-USA or maybe Best Buy, if the latter even carries it, bought so much stuff retail for this box it hurts, actually everything for it. I think the 380watt version would have handled what I have, it did for a week or so, but I really wanted the dual fans in the 430watt model.

I use the Enermax 465P-VE (431 watt) and it works beautifully.

ive used both the 550w antec true power (currently in my rig)a antec true blue 480 (i think it was) and an enermax 550 (or is it 551w?) and both work really damn well however id favor the antec due to its dedicated output circuitry as for the vantec yes they make pretty good stuff but in all honesty they are alot louder than the antec will ever hope to be.....hell i cant even hear my TP 550 and the enermax is a little louder but not a whole hell of alot to make a difference.
but my vote will go 110% to the antec true power 550 or for the flashyness get the true blue both perform damn well just the 550w from my own experience has ALOT better rails.

hi
anyone remember PC Power & Cooling? The're still out there.
I have 3 of them in machines, and the 510 Deluxe is my most recent in my recent rig.
Black body, black sleeves. adjustable voltages, etc.

have they fallen out of favor or something, or just not as widely advertised???

They cost a lot, and many of their units are rebadged units by another manufacturer anyway. But they do have a great reputation, yes. :)

interesting.
meaning they dont engineer their own stuff?
they're not building their own stuff with these better components, etc that we always heard about?

are they "re-bagging" all of their supplies? which ones?

Basically, look at your unit and see if it says "MADE IN USA" on it. The company that I heard supplies their offshore-built units (Zippy) is no slouch either, they make nice server/rackmount PSUs.
