YAPNT/YAGT- I don't think Kershaw can be beat. also guns

no, he's not a long shot tea part cantidate. they make pocket knives. yeah, i can use stupid acronyms, too.

anyway, i actually wanted to make more a self-defense thread WITHOUT the freaking politics. we had a recent knife thread and there's a gun thread that i was continuing but i think the flamewar killed it.

personally, i do not trust myself with a gun on my person at all times, and i find it to be an unnecessary risk/inconvenience. this is just my opinion, no one knows my exact situation and no one need refute it, anyway.

i do, however, like to carry a knife, especially since i play disc golf, trail run, and other activities that often take place in the middle of the woods, where sketchy people can and have been.

old and busted with new hotness.

new knife was still only thirty bucks (whereas gerber and others now selling assisted opens want 50+ for inferior knives), and despite it's gargantuan appearance, it is VERY functional. handle lacks contour but is still comfortable and very grippy. and i'm sure the pointed end would work well as a glass breaker. blade is only 3.125", the ken onion is 2.25". but you can freakin' feel the mass of it when the spring flings it open.

speaking of which, the retention (as well as the aforementioned opening) is excellent. though i felt the safety on my old knife was unneeded, on this one even kershaw agreed to let it go.

i guess i could just carry pepper spray, but, you know, i have this annoying dick that somehow prevents that ...no offense to anyone who carries it. good pepper spray is serious shit, and is not to be taken lightly.

as mentioned in gun thread, i bought a maverick 88 for the home.

from the last YAGT where i was trying to demonstrate just how big a 'security' shotgun still was (other two guns are airsoft replicas 😉):

how serious do you guys take your personal safety, honestly? i consider myself paranoid but reasonable. if i had a sig-o i would probably get her some retardedly overpowered pepper spray to keep in her purse, but for me, a gun in the closet and a knife in the pocket (especially a beefy, tip-up assisted open) gives me piece of mind.

edit: in an effort to not continue the big gun flame thread, let me add on this post about the gun-

me said:
to get my finger in the proper position, i have to rotate my hand into a horribly awkward position. modding the stock doesn't look like an option, i just need to go to an AR style grip.

i'm thinking i'd like a side folder setup. either chunky plastic like a sig rifle, or with the AR buffer tube/M4 stock.

anyone have recs on a replacement stock? price seems to vary greatly and i don't to overpay and/or buy crap.

I carry a Kershaw Blur at work, and another Kershaw at home (can't remember the model). I love the Blur...don't really like the other one so much, though.

my complaint with the blur (which i voiced in the 'groomsmen presents' thread) was that the tang for the blade doesn't have a 'flicker' nub that protrudes through the back of the knife...and kershaw's sucky thumbstuds + good spring action = pain.

is there something i'm missing with that guy?

needed to get ammo for the shotgun, picked these up today. i think they will work at making death.

I've never had a problem with it, but my other Kershaw is so stiff during the initial part of opening it that have a really hard time opening it with the thumb stud.

I have a Leek, and while it's nice, it's downright dangerous, IMO, to open it with the thumb stud. It's not a problem though if you open it with your index finger though.

I need to buy more Kershaw knives though. I have a ton of other knives, yet only one kershaw.

i own a chive (1600), mini mojo (1800), and my current daily carry silver shallot damascus (1840DAM). ive owned a few others over the years but that have been lost or stolen.

i apologize that this guy is a little 'southern,' but he seems to not be a jackass.

apparently the 'tone' is exclusive to academy, and i'm not the only one than can't believe this thing goes for the same price as a scallion (other knife pictured, although the 'snap-on' edition is of course a little more 🙄). the damn thing reminds me of some benchmade knives that i've handled.

does modern damascus steel have any real benefit besides the prettiness? iirc it's not produced by the same methods as the famed ancient damascus steel, right?

though i'm sure improvements in steel alloys still make it superior. heck, a $10 440C knife ain't bad. the steel in my new kershaw is one i'm not familiar with, but most say it's similar to AUS-8.

I've got a handgun, but I also just picked up this knife for daily carrying:

I was looking at both Kershaw and Spyderco and I just liked the looks of the Spyderco ones better.

At $31 including shipping, I couldn't be happier.

minus the 'chunkiness,' that's a very similar knife. same handle material, same blade material. and a 'spyderhole' as i believe they call it is damn near as effective as an assisted open- i much prefer it to studs.

the knife market really has changed recently. this kinda stuff used to be $75 knives.

also, move the clip to tip up if you haven't, that way you don't have to flip it after removing it from your pocket.
