A friend sold a laptop on EBay. He recieved the funds from Paypal which used the buyers credit card. He shipped the laptop to the philipines. The buyer claims that he never purchaced anything nor recieved anything. Now paypal has had to payback the credit card company and has sent creditors after my friend for the money back. Now my friend is out a computer and is afraid that paypal or the creditors will ruin his credit. He's a poor college student so he doesn't even have the money.

We figured that the buyer had his ebay and paypal accounts stolen, but now it looks like the seller is taking the hit. Aren't paypal and the credit card companies insured for such things?

Your friend must be the brains of the operation.

If he's poor, I guess all he can do is ignore PayPal and never use their service again.

That's why you never ship outside the US or to unconfirmed PP addy. Lesson learned and life ruined.

Yes, it's called PayPal's Seller Protection Policy. Tell your friend to read it next time before shipping an expensive item overseas. Operate within the rules of the SPP and he's covered. Shipping laptops to the Phillipines or Nigeria = not covered.

Did he ship it with signature required?

Did he ship it Insured?

Was the paypal address verified?

An answer to now indicataes careless and irresponsibility and he has no recourse for his actions.

yeah wtf. your 'friend' should pay up. he's the re-re that shipped a laptop to the phillipines.. it's 2006 for christs sake, what does it take for people to fscking learn!?
