Yao signed a deal with reebok for over 100 million. and none of that money is taken from the chinese government, not to mention ad money from gatorade, apple, and visa. So he's already blinging, reportedly Nike offered Yao more then they did Lebron & more then the Reebok offer but he rejected the more lucrative Nike offer because of a sneaky clause he later found out from his advisors.

I'm Chinese by ethnicity, born in Vietnam, never been to China and have no desire to visit; when asked, I say that I am a non-commie Chinese-American. I hate commies and that country. Communism is destined for a violent, ignominous end.

When Yao ming criticized the other commies' effort in the game, he was merely expressing his civil liberties, opinion, human rights, etc. Oh wait, they don't have those in China, sorry my mistake.

I'm waiting for Yao to become an American citizen.... You wonder why there's so many mainland Chinese in this country? To make money because China is a cesspool of communist party. Check out their state run TV here (CCTV)... it's always reminding you how great the party is. (if it is so good, why talk about it all the time?)

If there is one thing totalitarian governments hate it is those pesky, unscripted irresponsible comments.

Stop sending players to the NBA ? The Chinese will follow where the $ is regardless. Rest assured. ;)

I'd be pissed if I were Yao, too. He has to pay half of his NBA check to the Chinese government. I'm not sure if that's before or after US taxes, but either way it doesn't leave him much bling.

americans who say stuff like this usually don't realize that the chinese government pays for the athlete's living and training expenses... so it's not the same as if the US government took a cut out of shaq's paycheck. yao benefited from the chinese government's investment and now its time to pay them back. if he didn't want to have to pay them half his paycheck he should have trained himself instead of taking their help.

Something I have to wonder, if Yao is a Chinese national, he shouldn't be paying U.S. Taxes. After that 50% is given to the chinese government, does that leave more or less then he would have if he had to pay income taxes as a U.S. Citizen?

I am not Chinese and I am failry convinced that the Chinese government is populated by old men who haven't had a blow job in their lives and make the Catholic Church seem like the ACLU...

I guess that makes me a warmonger...

"Now, he has changed, he's more like an American, he dares to say anything."

I think I like this quote the best.

That pesky free speech thing we have over here has clealy corrupted him.

There's more to his word:
On China's defeat:
"I feel so disappointed. I lost all my hopes for this team. I didn?t expect to play so bad. We changed our skin but we are the same. Just like the World Championships in Indianapolis two years before."

On his future in the National team:
"I didn?t play well also. I am thinking to retire from National team. Not now, but soon I will. In Indianapolis I was the youngest player. Now I am the older, but still is no hope for us."

and then next game... got 39 points agains New Zealand, then next game China loes to Arg 57-82, and Yao only as 15 pts (average over 20 something)

Next up: Yi Jianlian

and ready for a new look Yao, kinda

ATHENS, 12 August - Outstanding Chinese big man YAO Ming has vowed not to go near a razor for six months if his team fails to make the quarterfinals of the men's Basketball tournament.

"I hope we will have the chance to visit all the ancients monuments of Athens and experience the Olympic tradition of this unique country," said the 2.26m Houston Rockets centre.

"But first of all, we have to qualify for the next round, for the quarter finals. If we don't, I won't shave for six months as punishment."
