Maybe in his rookie season, but he's a good 310+ pounds now. Overrated? How so? He's the best C in the league (Dwight Howard is catching up), averages 22 / 11 this year and 25 / 10 last year, how is that overrated? In fact, I would say he's underrated because many people have the same attitude you do. It's a shame for the Rockets though, they were playing so well & I thought they had a great chance to get out of the 1st round of the playoffs this year.

He's such a good center that he carried his team out of the 1st round. Wait... he never did, he's 5 inches taller than D. Howard, but Howard gets two more rebounds per game. Watch him get owned in the NBA. Al Jefferson is even better than Chopstick Figure.

Ignorance is bliss I guess..the Rockets are nothing without Yao. It'll be another wasted season now for Houston.

They're all good in their own ways. Look how tall Yao is. It's impossible for him to jump and move like Howard.

yeah, there's no doubt that yao is one of the league's premier centers ... either summit is really thick or just wants to start something.

I feel for ya guys....

to be fair, yao was injured off and on the past few seasons as well

yao's an injury waiting to happen at 7'6". And then you have T-Mac. C'mon Rockets fans... you honestly thought Yao AND T-MAc were going to stay healthy for any extended period of time?

he'd probably get another 5-6 points a game if he was officiated properly.

He's the best shooting C, though. He's got a nice touch. I didn't like him taking all those 3's in the all-star game, though. HAH

I'll agree, I think Yao is the better center right now with a more polished offensive game and better passing to go with solid D/rebounding. But Dwight's upside/youth/athleticism is just too high to ignore.

they are the two top centers in the game right now, with dwight having the upside of being more athletic. howard has never been as dominant as yao was last year though, before his injury. they both have their own merits and are both great player to build around. right now if you were to start a team howard would probably be a better choice.

yao's 6 seasons in the nba have been a complete success, there were those who didn't thnk he could even play with these guys. he may not be the best or most center ever, and he may never win a championship, but the poster who called yao 'overrated' is plain and simple, an idiot.

Yeah, Yao definitely had a lot of haters in his rookie season (Charles Barkley). Remember that dunk Kobe had on him from the baseline? This one He's worked hard and now is one of best C's in the game. Lol, a Yao mix...it's so weak

I would rather take Dwight but mainly because of age (22 vs 27). Also Dwight is a better defender. Offensively, Yao is better but Dwight is improving every year.

Dwight Howard will never be as dominant as Shaq was, or as skilled as Yao is. He's a huge force, but way too overhyped right now. His potential is overrated imo because he can't shoot muchless pass the ball...only dunk and rebound. I'd take Yoa to anchor a team over Howard in a heartbeat.

Can't you see a young, more athletic Shaq in Howard? Mind you, Howard came straight from high school. He's not as polished as Shaq was but I don't think anyone can stop him in the paint.

He's a baby Shaq, which in other words isn't a Shaq at all. He's 40 pounds lighter than shaq was and 2 inches shorter. His offensive skills are minimal, and may never be more than shaq's are, given the way he shoots free throws. When people talk about his potential...I wonder wtf they are talking about...he doesn't see the floor well and isn't a natural offensive player. His rebounds won't increase much if at all, and he's not a dominant shot blocker. He's incredibly athletic for his size, 6'11" (not 7'), but being able to jump out of the gym only goes so far.

With the west being as ridiculous as it is these days (in two days, the #1 team lost and dropped to #5)... this ends the Rocket's season.

They might as well rest T-Mac now; you know his spinal column is made of daffodils.

BTW, did anybody else notice the coincidental recovery period? If his surgery and rehab goes according to plan, he would just make it back on time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Conspiracy Theory: Chinese officials knew he was hurt and if he kept on playing, he would need surgery in the offseason and would miss the Olympic games. They told him to end his season now to avoid missing their star for the Olympics.
