Let's not forget about the White Sox with the best record in MLB (21-7) and Jon Garland being (for now if you go by stats) the best pitcher in the league (5-0, 1.38 ERA).

Also, another grossly overpaid team, the Cubs is doing pretty badly too.

why does anyone care so much that the yankees are in last place? gee, they only have 839855 games to make up this season. by the way, baseball sucks.

Sounds like a disgruntled Yankees fan who will start watching again after the Yankees (if) start winning again. :p

hahaha, yeah right, i have always hated them

Yea..the White Sox get zero attention yet the Cubs get national exposure. Right as of this post LaTroy Hawkins is pitching with the bases loaded in the 9th with one out...could be a waste of a good outing by Prior.

edit... Phillies score 2.... now lead 3-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth. Hawkins makes Braden Looper look like Mariano Rivera...he is AWFUL. Cubs are done...no way they can catch the Cards who are slowly gonna run away with the division.

Now back to topic.. the Yanks HAVE to take 2 out of 3 from the A's..no exceptions or else Mt. Steinbrenner may explode. Look out if George's horse stinks up the joint at the derby.

Wow, its about time they fire torre and bring in some firey rookies to get some chemistry back in the team.

As for Chicago, I don't know what's in the water but no one's complaining. :p

First the bulls now the sox, go figure, the cubs are next! (haha, don't worry, we haven't gotten that cocky yet. ;) )

Nobody says that a higher payroll guarantees winning. If you're stupid with your money then the results won't be great. However, it is without a doubt a definite method to make your team better if you're not an idiot.

Anyways, I wouldn't count the Yankees completely out yet.

nobody says it now but if they were in first place.....every post in this place regarding yankes would be just like they were last year...."THEY ONLY WIN CUZ THEY PAY THE PLAYERS MORE"
their owner doesn't play fair, so why should we be fair with our comments?

The fact that they are not in first place negates your argument entirely. If he spent a billion dollars on players its not gonna guarantee they will be the best.
actually since I made no mention of their place in the standings, then the fact that they are not in first place negates nothing. The owner buys what he wants, when he wants. The fact that they are not working out as planned has no relevance. Point is, when your payroll is more than the lowest 5 teams combined, you are not playing fair and can't expect others to treat you fairly.

You know, it's funny but every decission Torre makes backfires this year. Like when he didn't pinch run for Posada in the bottom of the 9th tonight, he makes a stupid baserunning mistake and costs them a chance to win. If Torre leaves the pitcher too long he ends up getting hammered, if he pulls him too early bullpen gives up the lead. You can't blame this entirely on bad luck, but this stretch by the yankees has been the worse luck I've ever seen in sports.

I think Yankees fans should be worried about Mariano. He used to just mow everyone down with his cutter and made everyone look foolish at the plate. He's not doing that now. Granted his teammates failed him defensively but Rivera didn't look too convincing on the mound.

I see the Yankees lost to the A's tonight. That ought to help their record.
