as a yankee fan i am somewhat glad they are losing....

Nobody says that a higher payroll guarantees winning. If you're stupid with your money then the results won't be great. However, it is without a doubt a definite method to make your team better if you're not an idiot.
Anyways, I wouldn't count the Yankees completely out yet.

yanks pitching = horrible, bunch of old men that cant get the ball across the plate. but the real issue with the yanks now is that there is almost no way for them to buy their way out of this. All of their old players have too much money on their contracts and they have no prospects to trade away. Only way the yanks are gonna get out of this is if their pitchers get a handle on things.
And the lack of prospects is only going to get worse, the yanks have almost 0 homegrown minor leauge players that are garnering interest, unless they make major changes they are looking at a talent drought, no matter how much money they spend.

That's because having a large amount of payroll is a huge advantage. If you mess up even while having that advantage then it's even more embarassing. Losing or winning doesn't mean that it is no longer an advantage over a smaller revenue team.
Do you think that a large payroll was not one of the main contributing factors to the Yankees winning last season? You seem to be arguing a strange point.
It's still much too early in the season, but if the Yankees keep floundering then they're going to take over the name 'the worst team that money can buy' away from the Mets of the 90's. Having their payroll and being under .500 is a huge embarassment.
The fact that they are not in first place negates your argument entirely. If he spent a billion dollars on players its not gonna guarantee they will be the best.
It doesn't guarantee it when coupled with incompetence, but it should 'almost' guarantee it under normal circumstances.
And the Yankees not being in first doesn't mean that they 'play fair' if that poster was referring to spending huge gobs of money as playing unfair.
why does anyone care so much that the yankees are in last place? gee, they only have 839855 games to make up this season. by the way, baseball sucks.
