NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Yankees surpassed the 4 million mark in home attendance Saturday, becoming the third major league franchise to reach the milestone.

The Yankees drew a crowd of 53,911 for a 7-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, boosting their season total to 4,035,560 fans with one home game remaining. The only other teams to draw 4 million were the Blue Jays in 1992 and '93, and the Colorado Rockies in '93 -- their first season.

``It's an incredible achievement, particularly when I remember that when I bought the Yankees, we had trouble drawing 1 million to the stadium. We have the greatest fans in the world,'' owner George Steinbrenner said in a statement. ``I cheer our fans as they cheer us, day in and day out. And I thank everyone in our organization, on and off the field, for helping to reach this amazing milestone.''

On Sunday, New York will almost certainly break Toronto's AL record for attendance. The Blue Jays drew 4,057,947 fans in '93 on the way to their second consecutive World Series championship.

The Red Sox have the highest road attendance in Baseball, and the longest running consecutive soldout streak at home.

Nice milestone, but all it means is that their marketing department and Uncle George's masive coinpurse get New Yorkers all giddy.

Come on folks...both are good teams that have dedicated fans..let's not start throwing insults around.

Congrats to the Yanks for the large attendance.

I'm a casual Red Sox fan, but I felt bad for that pitcher from NY. He's been hit by a broken bat and like two balls in the past what...5 games?

When has a thread ever stayed on topic all the way? Why are you getting so offended? Who cares if people don't like the Yankees, as long as you do that's all that matters. If everyone like the same stuff the world would suck even more balls than it already does.

are all Boston fans 10 years old?

nope, they just act like it

especially, the bandwagoners

Yup, same can be said for bandwagon Yankees fans which you are obviously one of. No true Yankees fan would have such thin skin. You're acting like a little girl about all this. It's the fvcking internet, get over it crybaby.

the fact still stands... we have some rather creative shirts too

White Sox fans have some pretty good shirts they sell outside Comiskey, like "Wrigley Field: The World's Largest Gay Bar" or something to that effect.
