Now I know they add shipping for each item because "We don't know what warehouse each item will ship from", which for the record I think is BS with the complexity of today's ERP systems. But C'mon, like they are going to take 1 SATA cable from 4 different warehouses to fullfill my order?

Order

I'm pretty sure I could over night all of this for less than $10 out of our factory.

1 month ago I built an entire system including case and PSU for 425 bucks, about 20 of that was shipping.

YMMV.

So order from a different store that only has one warehouse?

Have you tried removing 3 of the sata cables to see if it reduces a decent amount?

Companies have to start earning more ways to make a profit and shipping is one they found out after looking at ebay.

Generally they take the shipping charge from the most expensive (shipping) item and apply that to the whole order.

If you want cables, next time order from Monoprice.

Each of the SATA cables has $2.50 shipping each. Unfortunately the closest free shipping item is $6.50 and 3ft long.

Guess I'll just have to add more to my order to make myself feel better about paying a 50% shipping charge.

Monoprice doesn't have the controller card or the sata -> IDE power adapter (last item in basket)

I would expect UPS 3-day shipping to be that much. In fact I just used my business' UPS account to create a 3-day shipment for a single 2lb package from my location to another location about halfway across the country and it came to $21.40. Quitcherbitchin'

How do you think NewEgg is able to afford to provide free shipping on graphics cards, motherboards, even LCD monitors and ATX cases?

You could've saved $13.98 by spending the following (which includes shipping):It's definitely easier to just order everything from Newegg, but it pays to check around first. I always check ChiefValue, because a lot of times they have the same items as Newegg for a lower price or free shipping.

+1 for monoprice - always good stuff, no matter the cable/adapter.

-1 for SVC. I'm getting tired of them being OOS of things and leaving the items up in a way that looks for sale. Lousy selection to boot.

Pretty much what I ended up doing in the end. Saved about $16 over all.

Shipping cost has absofuckinglutely nothing to do with the item cost.

I don't find amazon's pricing that bad on shipping, I do find some 3rd parties on amazon do charge a higher than average price for it though.

I think he's trying to lower the total shipping/item ratio to make himself forget about the cable shipping/item ratio.

I did this last night. Before shipping, one item cost $7 and the other cost $2.50.

After I ordered I looked back and realized I had been charged $4 for shipping the $7 item, and $8 for shipping the $2.50 item. It bugged me.

Edit: Oops - that was on Amazon though.

WTF is up with that ChiefValue link? Aren't we allowed to link to them?

Test link

no.. for some reason we've been mad at them only since the forum's inception and the higher powers decided that links to that place would be a no-no.

I just looked up TRS cables for pro audio usage on Monoprice. The only TRS cable they sell has plastic mold for jacks on both ends. That's rather mediocre stuff.

The two things I hate about Newegg - 1) CA Tax (which I don't really hold against them) then 2) Their shipping.

I was thinking about ordering three things from newegg, pretty small overall (a camera lens and 2 memory cards).

Camera Lens shipping.. 7 bucks. Memory card shipping 3 bucks. Second memory card shipping 3 more bucks.

I looked thinking well.. they should knock some off shipping right? Negative. 13 bucks. I was pretty sad. I still think I'll buy it only cause they usually ship from City of Industry and being in SD that usually ends up being ~overnight - 2 day shipping for me. But heaven help me if it comes from New Jersey...
