I decided to finish up another box from all the spare parts I have left around. All I need is memory, a case, and a power supply. That's it. So I'm looking at newegg...

Case = $15 + $15.99 s/h
Memory = $110 + $7.66 s/h
PSU = $22.99 + $6.99 s/h

Total s/h = $30.64.. if you add up the S/H for each item.

They USED to drop the shiping charges for combined items. I was going through past invoices of orders I've made through them in the past year. Something along the lines of ohh.. $9000 spent just this year. I had one $1800 order with almost 15 seperate items and my total shipping charge was $10.

Now they want to charge me $30+ S/H on a $150 order??? WTF??? sooo not worth it anymore. Oh, I hadn't done any ordering from newegg in the last 4 months so this is recent. I thought, maybe it's the website screwing up at the confirmation screen. So I called in.. service rep said they now charge the exact shipping shown for every item on an order even if they are shipped together. BLAH.. guess where I'm not shopping anymore. That's a total farce.

I forgot to check on ewiz.. as for the others...

Chiefvalue IS newegg.. Same prices, same s/h and same policies. Just using a red themed webpage instead of orange.

ZZF = free shipping.... only we charge more for every item most of the time. this usually means 90% of the time the same orders from ZZF would cost me the same from Newegg. Since I've dumped around $60K into newegg over the years, I figured I'd give them some customer loyalty unless other sites can beat them on a price quite handily. I've seen it happen but it's not that often.

Allstarshop? or Allstarpoop? Sorry, bad experiences with them back in 1997 and will never go back to them again.

Time to check ewiz but last I remember checking their selection wasn't always as good.

They didn't do that on my previous orders this year. I was checking past invoices. Although I have quite a few high dollar, single item orders so the shipping shown is what was paid as well but I have a few multiple item orders, like the one mentioned above, that had a substaintially discounted S/H on the order. That included two computer cases.

Now why would they lower the shipping charges when they make more money off of it?

$22.99 is perfect price for a PSU IF you know what you are buying. A 300 watt Fortron PSU is perfect if you aren't using a high end video card past a 9800. Fortron and Sparkle PSUs are the best band for the buck for that price range and wattage. A 300 watt Fortron/Sparkle (really same company) is capable of putting out around 400 watts.. compared to toaster wanabe PSU's that say some craptacular wattage rating like 500 watts, but really strain over 400 and might do 500 watts ONCE and then set your house on fire.

Anyhow, been building computers for myself and people for YEARS. This trend by Newegg reminds me of Minotaur. Does ANYONE else remember that far back? In 1995 through 1997 they were the shiznat for ordering parts... then they started pulling crap like this and well I don't think they are around anymore.

What I did on my last order is order each item by itself. If they are going to charge for the shipping I will at least get a seperate tracking number for each item and each item packed by itself as well. :)

Your comment about ZZF....

I just bought a Flash Voyager from ZZF for $68.90 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=81816-7

Got free shipping a free useless photoframe. But still cool nonetheless.

Newegg which doesn't have it listed on their site anymore was selling it for $72.90 and $4.98 shipping.

The 2GB model is the same price on both sites right now.

But which is the better deal? ZZF free shipping, and photoframe or the egg?

I've been ordering from ZZF since they were known as Googlegear. Then I found newegg, their prices were always close, but Newegg offered Fedex shipping for free which is always faster then ZZF's UPS. But now, ZZF's free shipping is Fedex. Which is a win-win for me. I'm glad I'm back at ZZF.

From now on I'll be ordering from ZZF a lot more.

OHHH, don't get me wrong, I've made wonderful purchases from ZZF, and ewiz... but it's always hit or miss with them. On many products I noticed ZZF will compensate the free shiping charges with a higher base price then other companies. Not always and there are deals to be had. However, you have to keep your eyes peeled for them. When you have a bunch of crap to order all at once, I tend to price out every website and see which OVERALL is the cheapest. In the past that was Newegg most of the time. That doesn't seem to be holding true but then again. I took all the items I was looking for... which was the cheapest frikking possible case I could find and that happens to be the Silverhawk. Mwave had it for $9 + $14 for awhile and I didn't bite but now that I want it, they don't have that item anymore. Newegg has it but at $15+$16. I want a GOOD but inexpensive PSU. I don't need anything over 300-400 watts for this extra PC really. This narrows the field down to a fortron or Sparkle. Nothing else for a powersupply comes close. Unfortunately, not many e-tailers have as good a selection of FSP/Sparkle PSUs as newegg. Many never carried them at all. Monarchcomputer is carrying a few now but they are about $3-$5 more expensive even with shipping. Ewiz has the HIPRO which is a rebadged Sparkle unit but again, a couple bucks more for both base and shipping costs. ZZF.. doesn't have anything I'm looking for at all. Chiefvalue is also more expensive.

Now, I'm also looking for some decent memory for around $100. There is some 2-2-2-5 crucial timing memory on newegg for $55 + $3.83 S/H for a 512MB stick. I'm thinking GREAT! But order 2 and you just doubled shipping making it almost $120 now for the total. That's lame. Problem is.. I can't any other CAS2 timing memory in a 1GB size right now for under $140 anywhere else. 8 months ago, I was buying some NICE TCCD memory for $80 for a gig of it. What the heck happened? Oh well...I guess I'll hold out on putting this together and haphazard piece it together when I see good deals on the single items I want come through. Just hate doing that because I always forget.

Don't worry, I know exactly what you mean, for the past few years, I would just order from newegg, because they always had the lowest prices, and I got tired of checking every other site. But now it seems ZZF sees what's going on with the biggest competitor and their prices have been rock bottom from Newegg's, which is awesome. In the past month I've ordered all my parts from ZZF and all their parts have been cheaper then newegg so far. However I have admit their interface absolutly sucks.

That's what I thought until I went to place an order today. They didn't combine shipping on my big order 4 months ago, although people here say they were at the time. However, my invoice and order history show me only paying $10 on a $1800 order with a couple BIG items included. Hence, the rant about Newegg. Loyal customer for years and years, have dropped TONS of money and sent many more customers their way, including a few companies I've worked for or with. I've probably set them up for several hundreds of thousands of dollars and guess what? I might not shop there anymore because of a stupid policy change. Truth be told, Minotaur did the same thing back in the day and I stopped shopping there too. Not saying that Newegg will go out of business from moronic policy changes and competition... but it's happened before.

You have to remember that Newegg is no longer a geek only website. They have a lot of new people shopping there now. It's like Amazon now. They don't NEED us as much anymore. And some Geeks don't KNOW about other sites. Then lastly people just don't like change and are afraid to try somewhere else.

Well.. I've been to every etailer so far today. Much neffing at work :) Anyhow, Only Newegg and ZZF had all the items listed on their site I was wanting for sale. Newegg after shipping for the items I wanted was $175. ZZF was $165 AND it was 2 day shipping instead of the egg's up to 5 days. Only problem? ZZF DOES HAVE ANY IN STOCK. Woulda ordered for $165... but it looks like I'm going to wait around some more... hoo hum.

Egg's 5 day is still the standard Express saver they used to have. It'll still take only 2-3 days for it to get to you.

Also just buy what ZZF has in stock, and the rest at the Egg.
