YAMT: Wording on stat problem..

"Suppose that a die is rolled twice What are the possible values that the following random variables can take on:

a) the maximum value to appear IN the two rolls;
b) the minimum value to appear ON the two rolls"

My contention is that a) is asking for a 6 to come up at least once on the two rolls, while b) is asking for a 1 to come up on both the two rolls?

Can anyone clear this up?

From what I read, there are two random variables. The first one is the maximum value to appear in two rolls and the second is the minimum value to appear ON the two rolls.

So for the first, what are the possible outcomes for maximum value to appear in two rolls. I'm guessing that it could be 1,2,3,4,5,6 if you're using a 6 sided dice. The probability of one outcome is not uniform.

So what does 'ON' vs 'IN' mean?

Ohhhh, I was totally confused by the wording of the problem.

Because the follw up question asked the probability of each of these outcomes, I thought it was asking the prob of whether or not a 6 or 1 would come up. D'oh.

So basically is there a difference between on and in? There isn't right? They're not supposed to be capitalized, I just wanted to emphasize it..
