I like the new style farings myself, it looks more aggressive.

What's the bike look like naked? That's the best option :D

Do you know that the new stuff is bolt on? I'm going to guess that it's not.

not not directly, the holes don't line up exactly. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, though. Looking at the pics, the bolts are relatively close, so I could fab up some CF brackets.

Here's a pic of it (Did not resize the pic - sorry :p)

Btw, where's the poll?
Nice SV650, that's what I would have bought for my first bike if I had waited until I had more money.

Yikes, the GSXR600 does not look good naked, you're right. Some bikes you can pull the farings off and they look pretty good, but that is not one of them.

I'm betting that a conversion is going to be a lot more work than you expect.

Are you going to be getting a complete set of 04 fairings? OEM? You say it won't be much more work getting them to mount up, but have you looked at costs yet?

go with the '04 only if you are sure you want to tackle the task of making brackets and stuff. also, you may have to cut other holes in the '04 bodywork. you may want to look at some conversion kits (like repsol fairing kits for honda) off of ebay. some companies make some pretty sweet ones.

Yeah,
you can get the whole set off of ebay for ~500. Ill probably just buy the upper and one side first to see how much work is involved.

Fairing styles are wayyy to similar for me to warrant wasting time/effort/potential cash to try the change over

I tend to side more on suspension/performance related then looks anyway
With that kind of cash you could send your forks in for a rebuild or grab a nice aftermarket shock...or...or...you get the point

QFT... my changes were for necessity. i needed race plastics to race. I couldn't afford racing, sold my plastics and went to stunting with the street fighter. I'd take a track day over stunting any day of the week, but I couldnt afford it anymore. Avg track day was about $400 after you factor everything in.

Just go with what makes you happy - riding is NOT about showing off. Its about making yourself happy, enjoying an amazing machine, and building your skills. If you get a bike to show off you lose a lot of respect in my book... streetbikes are a dangerous thing to use in that way.

Also... please please please wear protective gear... leather suit has saved my life and saved me from EGREGIOUS amounts of pain.
