it didn't use to be pop, that was just when the industry started getting their paws into it. it used to be a subset of hardcore. those bands would tear you a new asshole WHILE they cried on stage. these days, no one cries on stage.

Yup. As much as I hate to pigeon-hole them into a category, try out some Sunny Day Real Estate for some truely kick ass "emo". For a quick glance "Song About an Angel", "The Blankets Were the Stairs", and the entire How It Feels to be Something On albulm are among my favorites from them, and How It Feels has become one of my favorite albulms of any band and gets a good deal of rotation in my CD player.
