YAMT: If it's under 30g, it's legal in Ontario.

Thanks to a recent Windsor ruling on a case that's going to set the precedent for dozens of charges province-wide, possession of less than 30g of marijuana is now no longer illegal. At least according to the morning paper.

I know there was an overhaul in the works, but I thought it was only going to be a few g's. An ounce and a quarter is hardly "personal consumption" for a night.

Is that what the law was based on? personal consumption for a night? Or just possession? I'm glad it's starting to be legalize... i don't do pot, and hate it actually, but it's senseless to be arresting and putting people behind bars over something as benign as pot.

I'm not sure what the law was based on exactly, the article was pretty vague. It just seems like a little high of a bar before it becomes illegal. 30g is plenty to hold a high-school dealer over for a day's work, unless it's a "high-traffic period"

30g is hardly a dealers worth.

If someone's having 6 people over, 30g woul dprobably do, a dealer would want more than 30g or they're not doing much business.
Unless it's a small time dealer, in which case there's no real need to worry.

Is it? I didn't think Ontario had the juristiction to enact such a law. Or is it that the courts ruled the law unconstitutional, gave the federal goverment 1 year to change is it that now that year is over?

30g as a day's worth? that's only about $300 CDN. That doesn't constitute dealing or trafficking.

30g is actually a pretty good bit. I think in most states in the US 1oz is the line between misdemeanor and felony.

Which is why it's great that the laws are changing here (again, i can't stand pot myself, and don't use it).

30grams is piddly sh!t. I could easily go through an ounce in a week.

Weed is decriminalized in many states in the US currently.

Here are the laws for weed, state by state.
These are the most current and updated laws that are currently active in the country.
The country being the United States.

looks like only NY, ME, OH, NE, and CO have decriminalized small amounts of possession (well, damn near 4 oz in OH). not what i would call, "many"

Interesting! Oregon's laws are pretty strict compared to those states'.

LOL!

IN AK, up to 1lb is still a misdemeanor.

Federal laws always take precenence over state laws and the feds still say it's illegal. If you were busted and the state didn't charge you, the feds still could. Unlikely for a small amount, but the feds are pricks.

BTW, I don't use the sh!t, but I believe it should be treated the same as tobacco and alcohol. There should be stiff penalties for its abuse.

You missed some, like oregon.
Also, medicinal could be considered a form of decriminalization.

Federal procecuters are almost NEVER brought in on possession charges.
The state/county has to send the case to the feds in order to have any federal charges brought up against the person.

I know, I've been through it.
