YAMT: Do I have pink eye?

Last week I had very red eyes but they weren't itchy or painful. It lasted for like 3 or 4 days. It went away and then I changed my contacts. Throughout this week sometimes I wake up and they're real red, I don't put my contacts in, then later they're fine. I wear my contacts again, another day passes, I wake up and they're red again.

Yesterday I was out partying for St. Patrick's Day and crashed at my friend's place and slept in my contacts (my contacts are meant to do this and this is normally okay). I woke up and my eyes were red as hell, watering like a river, and hurt so bad I couldn't keep them open. They were also sensitive to light.

What do you think is up? Maybe I have pink eye and the infection got onto my contacts? But then why did it get better and then get bad again multiple times this week? I've thrown away the contacts and the case.

Negative on the pink eye (I think). Try not wearing your contacts for a little while, or clean them properly. Are you using a different cleaning solution than usual?

It could be allergies but I've never seen allergies make an eye this red before, or hurt this bad and be sensitive to light. I do have seasonal allergies, but the pattern has been pretty much the same for years, just a stuffy, runny nose, and watery eyes, nothing like this before.

I'm not going to put new contacts in until they look completely normal again, and no I'm using the same solution I've always been (OptiFree).

Also, it may be viral conjunctivitis as opposed to bacterial ("pink-eye"). If this is the case, there's nothing you can do except use eye drops and wait it out.

It's probably just your contacts acting up. Good to see that you've gotten rid of them and the case. Don't wear contacts for a while (at least until your eyes are back to normal). If it gets worse from here, see a doctor.

I didn't realize the viral version was not considered pink eye. My friend gave me their pink eye drops from the last time they had it, I'm going to try putting them in for a few days.

Mrvile, I was thinking the same thing, but it'd be weird for contacts to just suddenly do this when they're pretty much always fine.

It's still technically pink-eye (conjunctivitis) but people usually associate it with the gooey discharge from the eyes. That's why I put it in quotes. Viral still has a discharge, but it's clear so it's just like watery eyes.

Somtimes the pain and light sensitivity just spikes and it sucks. If these drops don't help in like a day I'm going to the doctor.

if it was pink eye your eye would be crusted over. i'm going to say allergies, or something on your contacts.
Yeah they're not much if any crustier in the morning than they always are. I would be surprised to see allergies make eyes this painful or sensitive to light, though, and my contacts, well, they were brand new as of last Saturday and I don't recall getting anything on them, so that would be very strange.

One product I can recommend is Patanol.

You want to see eyes almost ready to explode due to allergies, hit me in the face with a cat.

Well I woke up today and my left eye hurts so bad I can barely even open it. The slightest bit of light like looking at my monitor causes it to shut immediately. I'm going to the ER.
