Alright, so Konami's secret, poetic announcement turned out not to be Metal Gear Solid 4 for the Xbox 360. It turned out to be Silent Hill 5 (which is actually bigger news for some people). Still, a good rumor never dies (and a great rumor comes true). While the MGS4 360 rumor has yet to come true, a reliable tipster tells us that Official Xbox Magazine has taken it upon themselves to toss another log on the fire. In the most recent Rumor Mole section, OXM declares that a "bankable source" told them that Metal Gear Solid 4 is definitely coming to Xbox 360. The game is reportedly being ported by a separate team -- which isn't headed by Hideo Kojima -- and should ship "a few months" after the PS3 version.

This one just refuses to die.

I've never played MGS, but I've heard that it's pretty good. If it ends up on the 360 thats cool, but if it doesn't I'll manage live on.

I  MGS. One of my favorite series.

Really hoping for this rumor to come true.

Yup, I'm with you on that. MGS is fun but I'm not buying a PS3 for that game. The money just doesn't add up right.... nor does the shelf space. :)

I've always enjoyed the Metal Gear series, it's definitely a system mover. The new upcoming "4th" installment looks absolutely fantastic. However, I always hated on arbitrarily complex the story was to follow. Too many arcs in the story, too many people with too many relationships....I could never keep up :p. I remember watching the 15 minute ending after beating MGS2 and not understanding what the hell was going on. I had just played and defeated a game that made no sense to me.

However, wasn't Kojima just recently (i.e. within the past week) quoted as saying MGS4 was not coming to any other systems?

Yes he did say that, but there is speculation that it could end up like MGS2 when it appeared on the original Xbox.

Also, how high up is Kojima? Is it ultimately his decision what platforms MGS appears on?

I'm really getting tired of these rumors...I really doubt MGS4 will come to 360 (especially a few months after), and I'm not going to buy into rumors (they're all just repeats from different people with "credible" sources).

Until Konami or Kojima says "It's going to 360" (and I mean a 100% confirmation), I'm not going to believe any more of what people keep saying.

I'm not saying this is any kind of proof that it's coming, but the fact is typically rumors that keep poping up like this (like the Xbox 360 Elite) have a higher rate of turning out true.

Konami must be loving this.

I've never played more than a level or two of an MGS game so it's not going to kill me whether it comes to 360 or not. That said, these persistent rumors sure seem to be pushing a fringe top-tier brand into Halo/GTA/Mario/Zelda status in terms of pure popularity. Combine that with the additional leverage it gives Konami to make exclusivity deals with Sony, and Konami has a lot to gain by these rumors continuing.
