yamaha ymf744

Decided not to go with the expensive SB live ($41). I'm currently looking at the ymf744, which someone told me has multiple wave instances (playing wavs, mp3s simultaneously), I just need to confirm this.
So anyone know for sure if the yamaha YMF744 chipset supports multiple wave instances?

(looked at mx400 and vortex2, and heard that they don't have win2k and winme drivers, don't know if these two are better than ymf744 in 2D and 3D sound though)

I have an Aopen AW744 Pro, which is Yamaha 744 based, and yes, I could play mp3 and wave at the same time.. but I have some funny DX compatibility issues.. and I'm not sure if it's Aopen's fault, the chipset's fault, or MB conflict/OS conflict...

What kind of DX compatibility issues? Happens in all DX apps?

By the way, how many different instances of wav/mp3/realaudio can you play at once? 10? 15?

according to DXDiag, there's no hardware buffer.. and in a lot of games I got funny sound reproduction.. I have to either turn the acceleration on or off.. Simcity 3000 I have to turn it off, but for Starlancer I have to turn it on in order to have good sound playback..
and in Crimson Skies the games claims that the card is not DX compatible.. I have to use the WDM driver instead of the newer VXD driver for that game to run.. I'm getting to the point to get rid of the card and swap in a SB 512 PCI I have lying around...

Damn, that's a lot of problems. I hope it's only in your case and not the card or software's problem.

The sb512, does that have multiple wave instances?
