Yamaha WR250X - Anyone have one?

I like the technology, but the test ride I had was kind of a let down. It felt more like a scooter than a proper sumo. Narrow tires, cheap feeling controls, meh.
Granted, my first was a KTM, so this 250 or a DRZ was gonna be a let down, I just wanted something cheaper and less expensive to fix when I slide it down the road once a week.
If you've already owned an R6, I'd definately go for something with a little more grunt, like a Husky or Husberg or Aprillia. Or KTM of course. So worth it.

Hmm... I wanted to keep the final price under $8k otd (what I paid for my R6, new). I love the KTMs but they're so damn pricey!

Which would you recommend?

You're thinking brand new for sure, or would you consider a year or two old?
If you're doing any freeway or anything, I'd stay away from the 250 or 400. A used KTM LC4, like a 625 SMC or a Duke are as bulletproof as a DRZ, but fairly heavy(~300lbs). I just sold my Duke last fall, best bike I ever owned, but to race it was just a little heavy.
If I was buying another reliable street bike right this second, I'd check out the new KTM 690 SMC. The thing rips, looks like a proper SM, and is high quality.
The Aprillia's are to racey to hold together very long still, but they sure look and ride nice. Husky is another great street option, like the 510. That or the SMC would be my top two new ones.
Check out supermotojunkie.com, in their buy/sell section. You're in a good part of the country to get something used but mint out of Florida, I'm jealous.
I'm pretty much forced to drive 1500 miles across the border to find anything this spring.
