Yamaha Upgrade Issues

I'm trying to replace my old Yamaha RX 979 receiver connected to a Elan Z Series Amp and Sonance channel selector. I'm replacing the receiver with a Yamaha RX A680 and not getting any sound. Could it be the amp is analog and the new receiver is digital?

Connect your speakers directly to the Yamaha RX A680. Do you get sound then?

Probably some setting on the receiver as to which outputs are live.
