Anyone own any of these badboys? I am thinkin about buying one but want to know more about its performance etc...
I checked anandtech reviews but didnt find it...May be I didnt look hard enuff 😉

Or any other suggestions for a burner that werkz at high speeds?...

Thanx in advance

I would like some information on that drive as well...

as for a great high speed drive you can't go wrong with the Plextor 12/10/32A.

is that SCSI or EIDE
...if it is SCSI i dont currently have the cash for it...what is the buffer?...im attracted to the yamaha because of the 8mb buffer on EIDE

The Plextor 12/10/32A is a EIDE drive
they also have a SCSI version of that drive.

Just checked the Plextor site and they list a 16/10/40A drive now. It is EIDE as well.

both drives have a 2mb buffer

8mb on the Yamaha? thats huge 🙂

Yea man that is huge but a 2mb buffer i dont think is enuff...12x is 1800k/sec ...a 2mb buffer might not be enuff

MaximumPC SPANKED the Yammy 16/10/40. Said they HAD ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS with it.

Check out the article in the Feb'01 issue.

I picked one up and it's pretty cool. Fast and finally a Yamaha which supports DAO for clone CD.

Make sure you upgrade the firmware to the "H" version. If you use EZ Creator get the latest patch for version 4.0. Once I got past those two issues all my problems went away.

Also to burn at high speeds you need good quality blank media. I tried burning at 16x with 8x media and got an error. I went down to 10x speed and all was fine. I have to go find some 16x media to play with.

i am going to get one too, that's why make me confuse, plextor or yamaha? but anyway yamaha will be more faster than plextor, and will be more cheaper, plextor just win the brand name, that's why people want to buy it, but anyway yamaha it's not too bad, about the burn proof technology i dont care, anyway i am currently have sony 12 X 10 X 32 and i never have buffer under run or fail on the burn, even i surf net, chatting , so i dont really need burn proof in this era, may be i need it if i have a weak system.

I had Yamaha 2100S (SCSI version) for almost about 2 months now (it was a Christmas present for me) and so far after almost 50 CDs (CD-R and CD-RW) burned, this drive has been performing flawlessly for me. I'm personally very satisfied with it and would recommend 2100S to anyone who's looking for a great and realible CD-RW burner.

I've had the IDE version of the yamaha for a little while now and love it. i read a lot of reviews and while some had some VERY picky small probs. they were nothing that would bother me. CDRInfodid a great review comparing it to the richo, plex and pioneer drives and gave it a thumbs up. Plus i got the drive and 20 blank 16x discs for $229!! For like $30 more than the plex i was psyched. while it does not have "burn proof", the 8mb buffer has no problems handling burning and doing other things at the same time. i'd highly recomend the drive.

I have the 2100 scsi,as well as the Plextor 1210 eide.I burn over 50 cds each week! As for the Yamy,it is a nice drive, but has not been as reliable
as the Plextor!I have had five Yamaha burners in the past.As for the buffer,
it is important, but not as important as you may think!I have P3/1000mhz computers, with 512 megs ram each.I have not tried the scsi 1210,but if it
is as good as the eide version,Yamahas may be gone from my systems. As for
the eide version of the Yamy,I have heard very few people praise it!Also if
you go eide, your system has to be able to handle dma if you want full benefits of the drives! This has been the biggest problem with the Plextor
users. My systems are able to handle it,so the eide is not much more of a load on the cpu than the scsi drives!

Well...Anand used the Yammy in his december gaming and other systems
So I dunno bout its bugs etc...Anand prolly chose it for a reason...
