Yamaha 44x24x44x CD-RW is on sale at Office Depot stores (it's not on-line) for $79.84 after 2 $20 rebates, Circuit City has it for $109.99 after a $20 MIR, order it online from Circuit City (using MSN wallet checkout for the 20% rewards) for in-store pick-up, take the ad to Circuit City and have they PM the Office Depot after one $20 rebate price of $99.84 when you pick up the drive in the store. ( I did this on another item last week so it will work)

The deal : Yamaha 44x24x44x CD-RW (YAM CRWF1ZE) for $99.84 - $20 MFG MIR - $20 MSN rewards (20%) = $59.84 at Circuit City

If you can fine a Office Depot store that will accept the Staples $20 off $75 printable email coupon you can buy it at Office Depot for the same price.

As I've seen so many threads that seem to worship the Lite-On CD-burners (and often for $20 or less), what makes the Yamaha worth more?

Yes it is, I didn't even know what you meant by that but I did a Google search.

Yamaha makes pretty good quality stuff plus this drive has T@2 (read Tatoo) technology. It will let you burn an image into your cd for that extra professional look. I always read about this new drive technology but I've never seen an example of a freakin' cd after it had it done. Like how many colors can it burn, or only B&W? Anyone have pictures of CDs burnt with T@2 technology? tia.

Here's a link to pic of a Yamaha "DISC T@2" Sample disc LINK to DISC T@2

I also have added a link to the Specs and a review to my post at the beginning to this thread.

It also has an 8mb buffer, and suports cdr99 standard, as well as being able to succesfully back-up (using cloneCD or BlindWrite) discs protected with SafeDisc 2.6.

it also has the ability to burn a "audio master" cd which is supposedly higher quality or something
