YAM(edical)T: How can you tell if you've broken a bone?

Don't ask for medical advice here blah blah blah..but I'm sure a few people here have broken bones falling out of their beds or something, so I figure I'd ask.

I was playing baseball earlier today at 2nd, and this line drive shot right into my right shoulder, and needless to say it hurt badly. I finished out the game as a "DH", and was kind of able to swing the bat a bit.

I then went home about an hour later, to see that it was still really red, and right now turning into a nice black bruise. It still really hurts whenever I move my right arm..but I'm pretty sure it's not broken. Is there a way to tell, without needless time wasted going to a doctor if it's just a bruise or not?

If you value playing baseball, I'd go to the hospital to get it checked out whether you think it's a waste of time or not.

I've broken my left arm twice before....

If you can move it, its not broken. You'll know if its broken or not. Immense pain with any kind of movement of the broken bone
