Well, my sister graduated from GWU yesterday and she's home for the summer until she heads off for the Peace Corps. Her room is right under mine and my subwoofer can be felt downstairs.

I want headphones in which I can listen to music and TV shows. It doesn't need to be all fancy and stuff, just need a speaker alternative.
 
how about a recommendation for some good closed ear headphones? (edit: my sonys are rotting after 7 years of use, would like new ones)
 
even low-end Sennheisers are quite enjoyable for non-audiophiles...I have some HD202's, MUCH better than the crap Sony headphones I was using before.
 
For open phones, there are plenty of options out there (Grados, Sennheisers, some higher-end Sonys etc)

For closed, Audio Technica ATH-A500/900 is about the top pick in head-fi, with Sennheiser HD-280 close behind.. <-- at least for saner budgets 😛

:thumbsup: Shure E2cs = possibly the best all-around phones. They're portable, offer excellent sound quality and excellent isolation, and are a steal at ~$60. They can be driven without a specialized amp. Sennheiser 280s are great - I own a pair and can attest to this - but not portable at all. Grado sr-60s are great as well, but on top of being non-portable, they also offer no isolation.

E2c's are awesome phones, if you have a pair, it's debatable whether you need anything else (though of course this changes if you have a high quality source). Senn 497s are nice, but a bit below the caliber of the "holy trinity of entry-level phones" - ie. Shure E2cs, Senn 280s, Grado sr-60s.

Another vote for e2cs. Very nice and you can get em for 60 bucks compared to the grados. I dont use it for the computer because i have a headset for that.
