YAHT with a twist (Yet Another Headphone Thread)

No Lifer
The twist on this being it's for my daughter (in the 3rd grade.) They are now required to have their own headphones for use in the computer lab. I'm taking her by Circuit City or Best Buy after school today to get some but didn't know if anyone had been through this with their kids and what they decided on.

Personally, I like the ear bud type but her ears would be too small for that 😉

what does she need the headphones for? music? games?

i would imagine there's no need for something expensive. unless she's grown to be an audiophile by the 3rd grade 😀

I would assume for educational games or whatever else they use the PCs for in the labs. Certainly not looking for audiophile headphones...more interested in comfort and fit for a smaller head 🙂

Oh, but she does like quality...she always picks the Widescreen format when she plays DVDs with both options (or two-sided.) I'm so proud! 😀

The cheapest possible things you can find. You KNOW they are going to be dropped, stepped on, sat on, spilled on, swung around, ect.

I'd just buy like 20 of those cheapie ones that come with the $10 walkmen and keep them on hand for when they are broken every three days.

Just get her standard headphones that go over her head since she's still growing. The over-the-ear types will be just as difficult for her as the earbuds.

Good point, vi_edit. 🙂

And, yeah, I was thinking the over the head type. I guess I'll just for a cheap one that at least is adjustable. The ones that came with her last portable CD player were just too bulky and wouldn't stay on very well.

I have an extra Z.540 set, I may suggest you consider purchasing a hat and mount the speakers in surround fashion. As to the sub, I guess a backpack for that. Then she'll be the hippest 3rd grader in class. Or did the teacher specifically say, no custom headphones?

I was thinking more along the lines of the full over-the-head style. Not sure if ear clip types would work. And, $30? I don't think I've ever paid that much for myself much less pair that will be stuffed into a backpack repeatedly!

How about the geezer approach: No headphones for you!

Back when I was a boy, our computers didn't have fancy sound or speaker jacks. You kids and your Multi-media-- we had green text, and sometimes a beep! And that was it. Bah! [AdLib from here...] <queue laugh track>.

Yes, Pun intended. 😉

Hey, stev0.

Thanks for the research but that open-air type doesn't look like it's size-adjustable? And I was hoping to be able to let her try some on for size which negates an online-only purchase. She told me this morning she needed them today.
