Yahoo! Widgets

It will be just as useless as it always has been, just like dashboard for OS X is.

The drag and drop FTP widget is very cool. Got a picture or file I want to upload to my FTP? No problem, just click and drag. Boom. It's there. Doesn't get much easier than that.

I don't care about stocks and don't need weather 24 hours a day or the time in london.. I can just look out a window or at a clock for that.
more useless crap to clog up a system.

some of us don't have the luxury of looking out the window and determining if it's going to rain in a few hours, nor can they compute the temperature that will occur later in the day.

it's not much useless crap, and it only takes up maybe 8mb in RAM. i love my konfabulator widgets

All of us have weather.com available, though. Why bother installing a bunch of extra software instead of just bookmarking a webpage?

Don't knock it until you try it.

If you've tried it and still don't like it... live and let live.😀

having the ability to press a hotkey (e.g. F8, which is the konfabulator default) to see the weather (among other widgets, all at once) is awesome. also, you can specify if it's always on top or behind a window ... there are so many options for how to display a single widget or a group of them.

another widget i find cool is the one that lets me see my private IP and my public IP, since ipconfig /a doesn't typically give you your public IP if you're hooked up to a router.

one big benefit of konfabulator now is that it's probably going to expose itself to more developers who can make really nifty little apps (widgets) to run on the desktop. i especially think one with nyc traffic is helpful. 😛

also, going to 5-7 webpages a morning to check various things (weather, traffic reports, UPS/fedex tracking -- they have widgets for that as well) can be eliminated by running this simple and really small app. if a widget pisses you off, you can close it. you can customize it. you can do whatever the heck you want to do with it and it's pretty cool.

as gsaldivar said, don't knock it until you try it. at the minimum, try it.
