So as far as I can tell, instead of using a standalone app, youre using a tabbed browser that appears for all intents and purposes to emulate a standalone app such as outlook, except that it uses its own tabs?

Tabs inside an app inside another app seems kind of retarded to me.
Well, support for using the browser's own tabs would require a browser-specific extension. But the final version will allow you to choose default behaviors, so you can choose whether double-clicking a message opens it in a new "tab-within-a-tab" or its own window.

I guess the whole thing just seems extremely superfluous to me.

good, now what are they doing about the 300 spam emails a day I get through Yahoo that I don't get at Hotmail or Gmail ? That's the only negative about them IMO.
I s'pose it sucks that you have to pay to get Spamguard Plus, when the others' free services are better than Yahoo's free service (but Spamguard Plus is the best, hands DOWN.)
Is it really? I certainly never get anything with Gmail or Comcast. Literally, zero.

Yahoo's new interface looks leaps and bounds better than other webmail interfaces, however in comparision to Outlook, it just looks bloated.

i'll be sticking with gmail. i like the interface better as it's cleaner and simple. the label feature works better than traditional folders as folders are usually limited to a linear heirarchy. i don't care about tabs, but i do like the preview pane. thats one thing i miss going from outlook express to gmail.

Wow...doesn't look as wonderful as you make it out to be.

I like gmail better based off of that screenshot. Gmail is just plain simple and it's VERY fast.

About the only thing that's better that I see is the use of folders....

The thing I like about Gmail is that they don't try to add all these graphical enhancements and such. It's simple and to the point, which I like.

QFT.

Although I use my Gmail account, I get plenty of spam on yahoo because that's well...my spam account. It sometimes takes forever to load, and sometimes it doesn't at all kinda annoying.

Hotmail is my spam account these days and I still only get 15 per day max. Yahoo's filters are just a terrible excuse.

edit 2: Summary of New Features

* Drag and drop messages into folders for better organization
* A preview pane makes it easier to read your messages
* Autocomplete - type the first letter or two of a friend's email address and Yahoo! Mail Beta finishes the address for you
* Speedier interface (DHTML for the techies)
* Really, really fast search for messages
* Keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl-S to save a message
* Navigate from message to message with the arrow keys
* Messages open in tabs or new windows so you can multitask

It works using Dynamic HTML, XML and SOAP, technologies built right into the browser. You don't need Java or any plug-ins at all. There's no download and you can still access your account from anywhere. How neat is that! *NOTE: Safari is not listed as a compatible browser yet.

Read the FAQ *NOTE: FAQ states right now that Yahoo! Mail Beta is expanding for Mail Plus subscribers right now (people who pay) but will eventually roll out to all Yahoo! Mail users.

Click the tutorial to see it in action!

UGGGGGLY!

Either way..I am always open to try new software or webpages...and I am always in need of new email addresses...>How do I get one/into the beta?

I like the drag and drop to folders. Thats one of the main reasons I use yahoo, the folders that is. I subscribe to several sites that mail me constantly so its nice to have filters that put everything in its own folder so I don't have to wade through hundreds of messages in my main inbox.

i like folders better than the "conversations" gmail has. the fact that i can't sort sh!t in gmail makes yahoo! > gmail. can't wait for this! i hope they'll implement this to all users. damn i've been using yahoo! email since its beginning. where can i use yahoo! email beta? is it a sign up? i have to create a new account from an invite?

I also hate labels in Gmail. I don't mind the "conversation" idea I just want normal folders. Another reason I use Outlook.

.........

With Yahoo it has blocked nearly every spam message Ive ever gotten, per day 0-1 get through and it blocks 50.

absolutely hate the "conversations" also..

Yahoo has come along way as well.. I look forward to when Yahoo makes this a live offering for all of its users..

Gmail is nothing more than a similiar "Ipod" frenzy..... you are not cool & hip unless you use Gmail...
blah.. I'll take my Yahoo mail anyday over Gmail

I'm not sure if you knew this, but the Yahoo beta mail client does all its fancy stuff client side. In all honesty, their new client loads faster than the older Yahoo mail did...and once its loaded its literally lag free (no page loads or anything.)

i don't like labels all that much either... but if I could get into the habit of using it properly, then it might be useful. yahoo's new interface looks swell.. but how fast is it? that's where google is amazing. I'd like to see an ad-free/paid google service.. if it could match some features like fastmail.fm, then I'd be all over it.

And I don't use the webclients all that much though.. I like to be able to click a mailto link and be able to send out directly (altho, there are some programs that will catch it I believe and launch the web client.. not sure though)
