Yahoo Joins up with Tivo

I don't really understand the point of this since you could already do so from Tivo Central Online. Guess they want to make it more like MSN Remote Record.

I thought the same thing, but often times if I'm not near my TV, I'll pull up the TV listings on yahoo to see if something was on. If I can tie my Tivo to my Yahoo account, then have a little button to schedule recordings right there in the guide, I can see that being useful.

The problem is, the Tivo only calls in once a day unless you force it to, so if you program something to record online in the next hour, it'll probably miss it.

"Starting on Monday, consumers will be able to schedule recordings on their TiVo box from a special Yahoo! portal. Subscribers would need a valid Yahoo! account with a yahoo.com e-mail address as well as a valid TiVo user account.

Additional content sharing between TiVo and Yahoo! such as traffic, weather and user photos, is almost assured before the year is out...

...the service is designed for TiVo Series2 recorders.

From any Yahoo! TV episode page, users can click the "Record to my TiVo box" button...

Okay, but I can already schedule shows remotely through tivo.com. What's the difference? The future uses look good, though.

The companies suggest allowing for one hour of lag time if the TiVo is connected to broadband through a standard home network. Dialup users have to wait 36 hours for a request to take effect if the TiVo uses dialup.

they are aiming for the market that uses Yahoo to look at TV listings, and allowing them to click a button to allow a 1-step TVIO recording. It's a great idea, but I don't like Yahoo, so no good for me.

I wish they'd make it so you can press thumbs up on ANY commercial to record the show.

Exactly, like I said, they are imitating MSN's Remote Record for MediaCenter.

I wish they'd make it so you can press thumbs up on ANY commercial to record the show.

I was just thinking last night how great that would be! 🙂

Maybe I'll have to check out Yahoo TV listings. Never have before. I have season passes for all the shows I like and wish lists for the things that MIGHT come on. So far there haven't been too many thing left uncovered, although I have used remote scheduling a few times while on vacation.

I, too, like the idea of being able to record from ANY commercial for a show.

If anything, Yahoo would seem the more suitable buyer based on how they are more entertainment-oriented than Google.

Google is building up to be a portal. Plus I want a cash buyout, not a stock swap which is what most likely will happen if yahoo buys tivo.
