yahoo chat normally works for me.
Recently, I get the message:
Unable to load applet.

You may need to download an updated version of the Microsoft VM from:

http://www.microsoft.com/java[/b

There does not seem to be somethign to DL at that link.

From Microsoft:
"If you are running Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.
Type: cmd
At the command prompt, type: jview
If a message displays information about Java, you have the VM installed on your computer.
If a message displays 'Jview' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file, you do not have the VM installed on your computer."

ok, I have Vm on my machine, so why the error?

At Xmas time I upgraded my mums PC from IE 5.5 to IE6.

Everything appeared to be fine with her system until she tried to access one of her online bank accounts which uses java applets - after some numerous e-mails to the banks tech support and following their advice we got nowhere :(

I ended up solving the problem by getting her to download and install sunjava - it worked perfectly from then on :)
(We did all of the microsoft updates and VM's etc etc - to no avail though!!!)

If you still get errors try using sun java :)
