Yamaha's site
I'd still go with the SR600 as it supports DD-EX and DTS-ES and 50Hz component switching over the Yamaha.

But if you reeeaaally need that extra 20 watts...

What is DD-EX and DTS-ES? I don't plan on adding another speaker so 6.1 doesn't matter.

DD-EX is Dolby Digital EX, a 6.1 channel format. DTS-ES is a discrete 6.1 channel format.
I wouldn't worry about them too much if you will NEVER be adding a 6th speaker. That said, most newer receivers around $300 should have these formats.

Well what exactly is the point of a rear center speaker? I don't even have a place for one. My 2 rear speakers are to the left and right of my sofa and my sofa is against the wall.

Sames as the point of the L/R rear speakers, to spread out the sound and make it more 2-dimensional, though 5 speakers are plenty for me :)

Good choices from etronics.com around the $300 range, brand new not refurb:
- pioneer 812
- JVC 8030
