YAGunT...used Glock 27 or new S&W SW40VE? **got an XD**

rudeguy

Lifer
Looking to upgrade to .40. I'm wanting to keep this one as inexpensive as possible. The local gun store usually has used G27's for around $450 or there is always the SW40VE which goes for a little under that.

Anyone have any experience or input on the S&W?

Picked up an XD

Defiantly Glock. Accessories and parts easier to get and cheaper. Better resale if you had to sell it.

The Sigma has a horrible trigger in my experience, though there are a bunch of homebrew trigger jobs you can do. But it still never matches the Glock trigger. Sigma is DAO, and pretty heavy out of the box.

Though, G27 not same class as SW40VE. Perhaps you can find a G23? Once in a while, I see police surplus G22/G23 for about $400 online.

I have had the SW40VE for over a year. Heavy trigger pull, but once you man up and get used to it it is a solid dependable firearm.
Have about 700 rounds thru mine with 0 issues.

stay away from the sigma! horrible trigger. it's a 12lb trigger pull!

glock all the way vs sigma.
if u want smith and wesson, get a M&P

edit:
oh, and the sigma is $299. is used to be $250 last year when they had a $50 rebate on it

Some people want bigger than 9mm and are willing to pay for it.

Another option for a cheap 40 is the the new S&W SD40's. $380 w/ night sites ain't a bad deal.
I agree but he's poor and has a kid.
And if you are going to be competent, you need to shoot it.
My next handgun will probably be M&P in 9mm.
9mm because it's cheap(er) to shoot. And if I busted a cap in your ass you'd be hard pressed to tell t it was 9mm or .40.

Have you looked at .40 ammo prices?

yep

Around here they are about $3 more a box for range ammo and ~$5 for carry ammo depending on exactly what you are looking at.

Aim Surplus also has a Sig P250 that looks interesting but I really don't want to buy over the web.

OP you have posted about money trouble, but you seem to be spending a lot of money. I don't get it.

my money problem is that there is never enough of it.

A good salesman spends his money. A hungry salesman is a good salesman!

Now can we talk openly about your testicle issues?

What do you have now that you're looking to upgrade from?

G26

I wouldn't mind a gen 4 27.

So basically the S&W is out of the question. The M&P is a bit too big since I will (hopefully) be concealed carrying.

I'll go shopping tomorrow and see what there is to see.

Personally I'd stick with your G26, but if you just have to up it to a larger caliber then go with the G27.

And don't fear buying firearms over the internet (from a respectable source). I've bought ammo several times from AIM but never a firearm, I've bought three AR-15's from different sources though (CDNN, BCM, and a smaller store selling a DD rifle). Bryan at AIM is a good guy. Personally though I'd take the Glock over the Sig any day of the week.

I got a Sig P226 used at 99% condition (basically could not tell that it was used) on gunbroker for $500 and it is phenomenal. Between the two guns in teh OP, I'd get the G27

$3 is pretty cheap for .40 over 9mm if those are the two you are comparing...9mm usually goes on sale at times and .40 not so.

Also 9mm is only about $5 more than .22 as well.

it comes down to a dime more a shot. If you are living paycheck to paycheck, and putting 100 rounds or so through a gun each time...that's $10/trip.

If you have disposable income then it really doesn't matter, but at that point I'd be shopping for better guns.

Sig P229 (you can get a .357sig barrell), HK P2000, or a Para Ordinance. Gun selection really comes down to how it feels in your hand. Personally Glocks don't grip well to me, I just don't like the feel.

The S&W 4006TSW is popular in the .40 crowd.

Thing with .40 is it's harder on the gun...I didn't believe it made that big a difference but there is a lot on failures in non-steel pistols esp aluminum ones. There was a FBI writeup somewhere where all aluminum .40's failed around 5000 shots. It was ALL of them.

The more I have shot .40 the more I am likely to go with a 1911 now.

If you already have a 9mm, that may be a better move.

"Also 9mm is only about $5 more than .22 as well. "

wtfbbq r u smoking?!

walmart:
box of 50 9mm=$10
brick of 500 .22 = $19

only $5 more not found

OP is all you wanting to do is go from a 26 to a 27 go over to the glock forums and trade someone. All you'll be out is some shipping money. 26's are in a lot more demand than 27's.

The 250 is junk but the 2022 is very nice and can often be found for ~$400. I'm a unabashed sig fanboy.
