What? You can't see it but you can hit it, that makes no sense.
I could see the target fine... just not where I hit.

this, why would you even need any optics at 100 yards? I had no trouble "hitting the bullseye" at 300 metres with ironsights (there was no bullseye but I used to make smileyfaces on the screen so I'd say that counts, always cracked my sergents up, the face was a lot prettier when I used optics though), I also didn't have any trouble hitting the target at 500m.
Thanks! I thought I was the only iron sight advocate around here. You will become a better marksman in the long run and get to know your rifle better if you become adept with your iron sights first. Nothing wrong with optics, but they can and do fail and if you aren't proficient without it then you are bound to become zombie food.
primary arms for cheap
one notch up, vortex strikefire
next notch up, aimpoint
more or less
I've actually had my optics fog up so badly I had to use the emergency ironsight(well they are really made out of rubber and are completely useless) during a training excercise where we used Fx rounds (and those SoBs hurt like hell), that wouldn't have happened with ironsights.
I would look at this one from Primary:
http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=205&categoryId=501
It's the same scope as the Millett DMS with a different reticle and a $100 lighter pricetag. Not what I would choose if I made a living with my rifle, but that scope and a Burris AR mount for about $60 will do what you want.
lol at the responses here. I didn't realize we had some many Special Forces commandos on the forum...
Yeah I dunno I haven't used one but I generally hear Primary Arms being decent value for the money.
I was going to suggest a Bushnell TRS-25 (like a cheaper Aimpoint Micro) but if you're looking at the $30 Walmart then even the TRS-25 is too much at like $80.
I have a 4x scope that came for $10 extra on my .22. I always thought it seemed just fine and I could shoot very tight groups with it. Until I had it side by side with a Weaver V9 (like $180 scope) and even a very old 3-7x unknown scope my mom found in my grandfather's things. Looking through the glass, things were far more blurry in the $10 4x than the other two.
So while it seemed fine using it, when compared against others it's clearly not even close. I guess I'm saying if you can to get something decent as you're putting it on a AR not like a airsoft gun. The TRS-25 was only $80 at Cabelas but they raised the price a few months ago.
Scope for 100 feet? 100 yards?
Iron sights are more than enough for those distances...and much farther.

Concur with learning iron sights first. You should easily be able to hit 100m targets with iron sights with a little practice. There's nothing "special forces" about it.
Get some 25m zero targets and zero your iron sights. Find a copy of US Army Field Manual FM 3-22.9 on the internet and learn how to use your weapon properly.
did you read my Op?
my ar-15 did not come w/any sites, note even Irons.
link to cheap iron sites?
To be clear, you don't even have a front sight post?

There might be some cheaper rail mounted front and rear sights, but I like Magpul stuff:
http://store.magpul.com/prod_detail_list/45
even the Magpul's are gonna cost him around $80. those are what I have on mine. iron sights are expensive.
And i could pick up a cheap 40" soft case for my AR15 for $17:

or this 36" case for the same price:

But 36" might be too short/snug?
yeah, never knew irons was that expensive. else i would have gotten an Ar-15 w/at least a front sight.

I'm leaning towards the TRS-25 ($80 + $8 non-canted high mount) because of free shipping from amazon.
Primary Arms shipping is $8.65 which makes the M3 almost as expensive as the TRs-25.
