Henry seems to make some pretty good .22 lever rifles.

Thanks, there is a Henry distributor about 2 blocks from campus, I will check them out after class on Monday! And take a look at their other stock as well ;)

Agreed, but I am fairly certain I saw the base wood stock version on sale for $499 recently.

Maybe at Walmart or somewhere? Around here the only place that sells them is Big 5 and they go for about $700 + another $70-80 in sales tax + $25 DROS fee. California sucks :colbert:

You can get a lower-end Savage or Remington bolt-rifle in any number of hunting calibers for around $500.

I was considering this as well, any suggestions?

Henry makes nice ones. I have a Henry Golden Boy. They make a blued version that is a bit cheaper.
Marlin did or maybe still does make one. Not sure of any other companies.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, looks like bolt action, or lever action at the moment, with a Mossberg being a 3rd.

Any more suggestions?
